"Don't Make Me Wild Like You: Captain Chaotica!!'s Ranma 1/2 Season One Screenshots!
Nihao and welcome to my Season One pictures.
No, this collection isn't complete yet; for one thing, I forgot to get any pictures of the ACTUAL FIGHT betwee Ranma and Kodachi! But I'll add to this page, and indeed, all the pages on this site, from time to time, whenever I happen to get a chance to re-watch an episode, and decide to snag a few more pictures. Anyway, enjoy what I DO have!
"Just 'til tomorrow, all right."
A cute pic of Akane with her original long hair, just after popping a little glowing bubble or whatever that is. If you've seen the Season 1 opening theme song, you know what I mean...
Episode 3: A Sudden Storm of Love
"You know that I hate you."/"Oooooh!"
Kuno and Nabiki spar over the chalkboard as Nabiki writes his name humourously wrong in Japanese.
"The chest is too tight! And the waist is too baggy!"
Girl-Ranma complains about Akane's clothes not fitting right...in EXACTLY the way guaranteed to make just about ANY girl angry! I don't blame her for whipping out her mallet this time, I really don't...
A nice long-haired shot of Akane, challenging Kuno to a duel outside the schoolyard.
The Tree-Borne Kettle-Girl!
Ranma waits just ONE moment too long to change back into a guy...and ends up regretting it for what seems to be the rest of his life! (This is how Kuno first became totally infatuated with "his pig-tailed goddess".)
Episode 4: Ranma and...RANMA?! If It's Not One Thing, It's Another!
Kuno's secret shame!
No, seriously, he doesn't actually collect fluffy little dolls, in this picture, Kuno is attempting to give a gift to the "Pig-Tailed Girl"--but doesn't understand WHY he has to give it to Ranma instead!
Episode 7: Enter Ryoga--The Eternally Lost Boy!
"WHERE IS FURINKEN HIGH SCHOOL?!!
screams Ryoga into the face of an innocent young man...right in front of the school he wanted, in fact!
Ranma waits for Ryoga
...and waits...and waits....and WAITS...In this flashback picture, little-Ranma stands for THREE DAYS in a vacant lot waiting for Ryoga to arrive for their scheduled fight--and the lot is RIGHT BEHIND RYOGA'S HOUSE!
"Ranma, I'm Coming to Kill You!
In this, another flashback shot, little-Ryoga swears revenge on Ranma during his long, wearisome travels trying to FIND the guy!
Episode 11: Ranma Meets Love Head-On! Enter the Deliquent Juvenille Gymnast!
Kodachi's Locker
. Ho-hum, just the typical stuff that everybody keeps in their locker at school. I WOULD say we've stumbled into MOUSSE'S room by mistake, but he's not scheduled to show up for another season!
Ranma catches a rose
Upon first meeting Kodachi, Ranma finds him/herself more than a bit befuddled...
Akane trains
for the Martial Arts Rhythmic Gymnastics competition. Notice: short hair.
Skulking around...
I like this shot of Kodachi sneaking through the shadows at night, with a cloak over her leotard, preparing to ambush Akane...
Let me go!
Here, Kodachi grabs Akane with her ribbon, and I ask you again, does this fighting style REMIND YOU of anyone?!
"Make me your OWN!
And here she grabs Ranma in an entirely different way. No fair glomping a guy after he's been dosed with paralysis powder! Of course, Kodachi LIVES to cheat...otherwise, she wouldn't be attacking the competition at night in their homes before the contest, would she?!
Episode 12: A Woman's Love is War! The Martial-Arts Rhythmic Gymnastics Challenge!
Here Comes the Black Widow...erm, I mean, bride...
Kodachi arrogantly shows up to the match in a super-flashy entrance including a full-shot bridal gown! And of course a bouquet of BLACK roses.
Episode 13: A Tear in a Girl-Delinquent's Eye? The End of the Martial-Arts Gymnastics Challenge
Flowers? For me?
Here, Ranma holds TWO bouquets--one given to him, when he was a boy, by Kuno, for delivery to "the pig-tailed girl!" and the other, (black roses), by Kodachi, when he was a girl, for delivery to "her DARLING Ranma!" No wonder he looks so grumpy...if my life was that messy and confusing, I'd be pissed too!
Late-Season One Ending Theme Song
Season One's ending theme-song changes from "Platonic (Let's Keep it Friends for Now") to "Equal Romance"--the same song that gets sung in the Tendo Christmas Special later on--later on during the year. I don't know why. Anyway, here are some shots from it that I kinda liked.
"Let's hear it for the old guys!"
(That's actually a quote from a Season TWO episode; brownie points to whoever can guess which one!) Cologne and Happosai, together. Happy's dressed up as P-Chan in hopes it'll get him into Akane's bed...Notice that NEITHER of these characters are IN Season 1!
Spring of Drowned Panda
--Genma shows us both his sides.
Spring of Drowned Piglet
--Ryoga and P-Chan glare at each other.
Shampoo--the girl, the cat, the legend!
Notice that, again, Shampoo doesn't GET her curse until later on...
Brother, sister, side by side!
To defend our home we ride! Um, wait, no, that's from a poem in a fantasy book. Anyway, here we have the Kuno twins, Tatewaki and Kodachi, back-to-back.
Episode 14: Pelvic Fortune-Telling? Ranma's the Number One Bride in Japan!
Dr. Tofu's mother
travels all the way out to Nerima to make sure her dear son will get married at a reasonable time. Scary-lookin', ain't she? But not really all that bad, in the end.
Nabiki and her "darling" doctor
In order to convince his mom that he's already fallen in love with someone ELSE, so that poor Tofu won't have to marry the HIDEOUS girl she's picked out for him, Nabiki poses as his fiancee--for a PRICE, of course...!
"Princess" Ranma
Ranma-chan gets into the act too, with this LOVELY little pink chiffon number!
"Have you been on a diet, dear?"
Tofu dances with Betty, his skeleton, jokingly claiming that SHE is his true love.
Kasumi gives Tofu a home-cooked meal
. But HERE'S the one he REALLY loves, of course. Notice that his glasses are fogged up. Is that a variation on Peril-Sensitive Sunglasses, I wonder? Instead of going black to keep you from seeing anything that might alarm you, they fog up to keep you from seeing anything that might make you drool? Hmmm...
Pretty in Pink!
After the fracas is all over, Ranma turns back into a boy while still wearing That Dress. (It's so silly-looking, I think it deserves capital letters...) Who SAYS he's not a cross-dresser?! I bet Tsubasa would love to borrow that...
Episode 15: Enter Shampoo, the Gung-Ho Girl! I Put My Life in Your Hands!
"Ranma! DIE!
With her Japanese even MORE broken than usual, Shampoo makes her violent and funny entrance--out for Ranma's blood!
The Kiss of Death!
In this flashback shot, Shampoo gives girl-Ranma the dreaded Kiss that means she will have to hunt her down to the ends of the earth--and KILL!
Sister-Warriors of the Tribe
Here you get probably what is the one and only shot of some of the OTHER female Amazon warriors--notice that they all look more authentically Chinese than Shampoo does...
Hunting
Shampoo sets off on her quest to hunt Ranma down to the ends of the Earth...
Episode 16: Shampoo's Revenge! The Shiatsu Technique that Steals Heart and Soul!
Shampoo gives the dreaded Kiss of Death to Akane
this time! Oooh...! How WILL our short-haired heroine get out of this one! Well, watch the episode or read the manga, silly!
Episode 17: I Love You, Ranma! Please Don't Say Goodbye!
"Order a new front door, will you Igor?"
Oh, wait, wrong cartoon, hee hee. Anyway, here Shampoo enters the Tendo house in her usual inimitable way...
"Bie liao!"
At the exact moment that Shampoo finally REALISES that girl-Ranma, which she hates, and boy-Ranma, which she loves, are both the same person, she looses her will to murder girl-Ranma and breaks down crying, then runs away sobbing in confusion into the night. Oh, geez...sniff.
