BARROCO BRASILEIRO
The BAROQUE IN BRAZIL - THE Baroque style was developed fully in Brazil during the century XVIII, still lasting long in the beginning of the century XIX. The Brazilian Baroque is clearly associated to the Catholic religion. Two different lines characterize the Brazilian Baroque style. In the areas enriched by the trade of sugar and for the mining, we found churches with works in reliefs facts in wood - the cuts - covered again by fine layers of gold, with windows, sanctuaries and doors decorated with detailed sculpture works. Already in the areas where it didn't exist nor sugar nor gold, the churches present modest cuts and the works were accomplished by less experienced and famous artists than the ones that lived in the richest areas.
The culminating point of the integration among architecture, sculpture, cuts and painting appears in Minas Gerais, without a doubt starting from the works of: Antônio Francisco Lisboa, Aleijadinho - its project to the church of San Francisco, in Ouro Preto, for example, as well as its accomplishment, they express a full and perfect work of art. From carried her, with a beautiful work of lockets, angels and ribbons sculpted in stone-soap, the visitor is already sure that is before a complete artist. Besides extraordinary architect and decorator of churches was also incomparable sculptor. The Sanctuary of Good Jesus of Matosinhos, in Congonhases of the Field, it is constituted by a church in whose adro is the sculptures in stone-soap of twelve prophets, each one of those characters in a different position and it executes gestures that are coordinated. With that, he got a very interesting result, because it turns very strong for the observer the suggestion that the stone illustrations are being moved.
Characteristics of the sculpture of Aleijadinho:
Manuel from Costa Ataíde - its paintings in roofs of the churches followed the characteristics of the Baroque style, and they formed an alliance perfectly with the sculptures and architecture of Aleijadinho. Outstanding work: Painting of the Roof of the Church of San Francisco of Assis.
