“STAR” is an acronym for Summer Time Avid Reader. This is the summer reading program for both
the Primary Learning Center as well as the Elementary School. Students will begin to bring home the “STAR”
packet in the last 2 weeks of school.
Our
goal in the summer reading program is for students, teachers, and staff to read
at least 30 minutes each day during their summer break. In the “STAR” packet, you will find a page
for keeping track of your reading times.
If a packet isn’t brought home, one can be obtained through the
school. (See Contact Us) The principals and the librarian have agreed
to plan a surprise if our goal is met!
Participants will be invited to the “STAR’ awards ceremony when school
begins in September. Past ceremonies
have included fun times with “pies thrown in the faces of the principals and
the librarian”, a dunk tank- where students try to dunk principals and
the librarian into the water, and silly string attacks. The exact date will be announced at the
beginning of the school year.
If
a student is participating in any other summer reading program (Chester County Library or
Parkesburg Library), then any reading done for that program may be counted in
our program. Books, newspapers, comic
books and magazines all qualify in the “STAR” program.
