In Memory of Whiskers

Whiskers, 1995 - January 1st, 2003

Whiskers passed away on January 1st, 2003 from the injuries he received in the car accident while he was romping around the neighborhood. We received the sad news from the apartment groundskeeper today after our cat was missing for several hours.

During Whiskers's seven years in life, he accomplished many things that only cats could do in a comical manner. While we have fond memories of our silly boy, we still feel a tremendous loss when we lose the one we loved so dearly. I'd like to share a couple of funny stories about Whiskers.

We had a couple of cats who gave birth to a bunch of beautiful kittens in March 2000. I remembered Whiskers's reaction when he saw the kittens for the first time. He was definitely not pleased about having to share the house with these kittens. Whiskers wasn't particularly fond of the kittens and would not go near them at the time. But it took him time to get used to having rambunctious kittens following him around the house, nipping at his tail and feet and playing tag with him. He was Uncle Whiskers. LOL We finally decided to keep one of the kittens and give the rest away to loving families who wanted them. Stormy was a bundle of energy, always chasing after Whiskers. Yes, there were times he would play with the baby kitten and other times he made his point to be left alone. Eventually, both Whiskers and Stormy became sort of friends, getting along with each other occasionally and bullying each other at times to this day.

Here's another short story... Every time Whiskers wanted to go outside to romp around the neighborhood, he would let us know by scratching the door furiously (Thank Heaven, the door was metal) when he wanted to go out. We took turns letting him out onto our balcony. When it was my turn to let him out, I played a little game with Whiskers (Bless his soul). I would walk up and scratch the door,"You wanna out, Wiggers (His other nickname)? Oh, you do want to go outside, do you? Lemme teach you how to open the door." He would sit there with big, blazing eyes of annoyance. LOL I sometimes opened the door a smidge and told him he can fit through the crack without a problem. My partner would always say,"Let him out now." "You always teased Stormy, so I tease him." But I did let him out eventually. Whiskers was a good sport.

When Whiskers left us to go to Cats' Heaven in the sky, he left behind alot of precious memories for us to cherish and laugh over. The loss of our cat hit us unexpectedly. I will always remember Whiskers as a sweet and sometimes anal cat, he can be sweet and anal at the same time. He held a special place in our hearts, a big, silly boy who always took the time to let us know he is the king of our home. Well, not always because he had to compete with Stormy for the run of the home. LOL

Whiskers will now rest peacefully after fulfilling his seven years on Earth, filling our lives with joy and looking over us and our cats as our protector and entertainer. We will always remember him in our hearts and minds....
