| Avril who? |
| From the 'early days' around about 4 years ago in 2000 the young(er) Avril Lavigne aged just 15/16 was signed and a pop-rock star was born! The undoubtably talented 15 year old made people in high places sit up, listen and take notice of a girl who knew what she wanted and how to get it. After spending time co-writting her debut album ("Let Go") with a team of well established writters, it was all but time that stood in the way of the world knowing who Avril Lavigne was. The first single to be released from her debut album was "Complicated", which catapulted her into the fore-front of a revelution of young unheard women. Most of these were teenage girls who stood up and shouted how much their ex-boyfriends sucked and how they had had enough of it. This 'boy bashing' gave the youngster an edge, which had been missing from the music scene and sure enough her fan-base grow world-wide. With hits such as "Complicated", "Sk8r Boi" and "Losing Grip", the media soon labled Avril as a Sk8r Gurl, Toyboy, Boy Bashing, Moody teenager, which they seemed to dislike just as much as she disliked them! But a twist was added; with songs like "I'm With You", "Naked", "Tomorrow" and "Anything But Ordinary" she showed that she could also sing songs which weren't your typicial anti-men songs. With this huge debut album selling 14 Million copies and world-wide success Avril received 8 Grammy nominations, and had still to write and record her second album. After spend months and months performing on tours and traveling the world Avril decided to take some time out in LA to write her follow up album with the singer/ song-writter Chantal Kreviazuk (and one track with former Evanescence guitarist Ben Moody). "Under My Skin", Avril's second album is an unbelievable credit to the amount of work that must have gone into making it. From the sound of "Let Go", "U.M.S" is so different that you wouldn't know it was by the same artist, apart from the fact that it's Avril's voice singing the songs and the CD inlay displays her face! Avril's sound has grown-up as indeed she has, not suprisingly concidering she co-wrote "Let Go" when she was 15 and co-wrote "Under My Skin" when she was 20, the age difference and the amount of time inbetween these two is quite a lot when you think about it! The first single released from "U.M.S" was "Don't Tell Me", which was written even before "Let Go" was a sparkle in the publics eyes, she co-wrote it with non other than her ex-guitarist Evan Taubenfeld. This started the ball rolling and indeed the album rolling with an upbeat anthem about how young women should be strong and stand for what they believe in, this reflects on the previous hits of "Complicated", "Sk8r Boi" and "Losing Grip". The other singles include "My Happy Ending" and "Nobody's Home", which reflect the maturing growth of Avril Lavigne and her writting. With emotionaly filled songs that include pianos and orchestras such as "Slipped Away" (which was written about her grand father's death), "How Does It Feel", "Fall To Pieces" and "Forgotten", the album clearly is a album to buy, cherish and play over and over again. |
