The
car history begins in north of Sweden. The car was used between 1920-28 when
probably the front shaft was damaged. The car body was removed and the frame
and motor converted to a cross cutter. I became the lucky owner of the car
at 1993 and it was trailed 850 kilometers to my home in Bjarred, south of
Sweden. My wife wasnt as enthusiastic as me. I reminded her about half ownership
and coming "classic-car rallys". She didnt seem convinced at all.
After
so called "origin control" by The Swedish Motor Vehicle Inspection we began
the dismantling. All parts were removed, the steel was sand blasted and primed,
and finaly placed at the attic, awaiting for repair.
The
dry and cool climate in north Sweden has saved the wood and the bodysteel.
The
motor was filled up with heavy lube oil in the past by an intelligent person
and wasnt stuck. We could easy crank it by hand. After dismantle and cleaning,
we established the wear on crankshaft, camshaft and cylinderliners were within
the limits. Five days later and a gallon of kerosene made the motor look as
new. Valves, springs, pistonrings and seals were renewed. Oversized stainless
valve stems came from US. The original cast iron pistons were saved. We want
to maintain the low idling-speed, torque and the typically T- ford sound.
The mise have done a good job with the electric wiring. Only the cupper remained.
The radiator was leaking but repairable. All bushings in the gearbox were
renewed.
The
wheels were dismantled, cleaned and soaked with linseed oil and turpentine
mix for 6 months. The Hickory was good. No putrification. Some spokes were
loose. A couple of 0,5 mm thick steelwedges between the spokes in the hub
did a great jobb. The spokes were originaly painted black, but we kept them
unpainted
The reconditioned motor, ready for the first test run.
The
motor was started 9:th sept 1994 for the first time. A lot of smoke but it
worked. Not bad after almost 80 years. After some minor adjustments at ignition
and carburator it runs smoother than my Saab. My wife slowly begins change
her opinion.
The
first trial run around the neighbourhood in Bjarred Sweden. The gas tank is
perfect as drivers seat.
All body parts has to be fitted and removed again, before the final black
coating.
The
upholstery and top cover are pergamoid. The seats are padded with horsehair
and cotton wool.
Ready
for the final test at the Swedish Motor Vehicle Inspection.
It
passed. No remarks.
