CHOLESTEROL PANEL
WHAT IS CHOLESTEROL?

Cholesterol is a waxxy- fatty  like substance (lipid).  Cholesterol is essential to your body's cell membranes, to the insultaion of your nerves and to the production of certain hormones.  It's used by your liver to make bile acid, which help digest your food.  It is important that we understand the significance of cholesterol as it relates to our health.  Specifically the amount of different types of cholesterol in our blood is one of several key indicators of a persons potential for heart disease.

The Full - lipid profile includes the LDL CHOLESTEROL ( LOW DENSITY LIPOPROTIEN), (Bad cholesterol) the HDL (HIGH DENSITY LIPOPROTIEN) (Good cholesterol), the TOTAL CHOLESTEROL, the RATIO (between the total cholesterol and the good cholesterol), and the TRIGLYCERIDES.

According to the American Heart Association a cholesterol test is the first step in assessing risk factors for heart disease.

FOR THIS TEST WE DO A FINGER STICK BLOOD DRAW, AND FASTING FOR 12 HOURS PRIOR TO THE TEST IS REQUIRED ( Drink water only)
