Seminar held on Dengue Haemorrhagic Fever at USTC

WHO Bangladesh Representative Dr. Suniti Achrya said it is possible to prevent the killer disease dengue through polution free environment and health care. Emphasising on the importance of prevention than cure of dengue disease, she said most of the infected persons will face premature death if effective steps can not be taken immediately to prevent the  disease from spreading. 

 

She was addressing as chief guest in a seminar on Dengue Haemorrhagic Fever organised on 16 July 2001 by University of Science & Technology Chittagong (USTC).

 

Presided over by the USTC's founding chancellor National Professor Dr.

Nurul Islam, WHO Bangladesh's health & environment adviser Mr. Han A. Haynan was present as special guest in the seminar.

 

In his presidential address, National Professor Dr. Nurul Islam has pointed out that Sri Lanka is mostly experiencing the dengue epidemie in this region and that Sri Lanka and Chittagong are located on the same line on geographical point of view. That's why dengue has come here so quickly.

 

He said dengue virus might be present in patients with cough & other viral

fever. To prevent this killer disease, he urged all section of people to

become environment & health conscious. 

 

Addressing as the special guest, WHO Adviser Mr. Han A. Haynan said unhealthy environment is the source of dengue. He opined that it is possible to prevent dengue by improving the surroundings and living better life.

 

USTC's pro-VC Professor Dr. Shahadat Hossain presented the key note paper in the seminar.

 

Among others present in the seminar were WHO officer Tapan Nath, USTC's Professor Md. Abul Kashem, Professor Dr. Rezaul Karim, Professor Dr. Md. Ishaq, Dr. Kazi Rafiqul Hoque, Director (Admin) Dr. Sharifuzzaman, Director Col. (retd.) Iskander Hossain, Deputy Director Nobidur Rahman, Registrar Professor Tofael Ahmed, Assistant Registrar Md.
