High-profile meeting held on Dengue

 

Dhaka, May 9 (UNB) – As dengue staged a comeback with the rains, Health Ministry today held a high-profile meeting and discussed various steps to prevent the outbreak of dengue fever.

The meeting on dengue prevention and control was held at the ministry’s conference room with Minister Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim in the chair.

It stressed the need for removing stagnant water from school  premises and residences to destroy the breeding places of Aedes mosquitoes and urged the people to be cautious about it.

The meeting was informed that the government has planned to provide training on dengue management to 2200 doctors and has already imparted training to 220 physicians.

It was told that all arrangements have been made to import four platelet separators to examine platelet count. Necessary kits of examining dengue fever are now available in the country and the process to bring more is underway.

The meeting was further told that necessary arrangements have been made to examine dengue fever in all hospitals free of cost.

The Health Minister directed all hospital authorities to prepare with all logistic supports to tackle the situation.

Health Secretary Muhammad Moniruzzaman, WHO representative in Bangladesh Dr Suniti Achariya, hospital directors and DCC representatives attended the meeting.
