Fresh outbreak of dengue feared this year
By Staff Reporter With an apprehension of severe breakout of dengue fever, members of Bishwa Sahitya Kendra and other cultural personalities and educationists yesterday took to the city streets to make people aware of their environment. They marched on the streets in different parts of the city and urged the residents in the localities to keep the premises of their houses clean and not to litter here and there on the open streets. With the beginning of the monsoon this year, the physicians feared of fresh strike of dengue and the physicians said that the fresh attack of dengue would very dangerous for those patients who were previously infected. Those who joined the campaign yesterday included Professor Abdullah Abu Syed of Bishwa Sahitya Kendra, economist Dr. Atiur Rahman and famous magician Jewel Aich. They sprayed insecticides on garbage littered on the open streets and in the probable breeding ground for mosquitoes. They made people aware that the mosquitoes carrying dengue germs breed in artificial accumulation of water in and around human dwellings such as pots, coconut shells, earthen pots, tree holes and the like and that these places should be cleaned immediately to get rid of mosquitoes.
