Dengue: 24 more hospitalised

Staff Correspondent

Twenty-two more dengue patient were admitted to different city hospitals in the last 24 hours ending at 6pm yesterday, official sources said.

Of them, three were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, three to Mitford General Hospital, five to Dhaka Shishu Hospital, two to BIRDEM, three to Holy Family Red Crescent Hospital, five to Ibn Sina and one to All Care Mother and Child Hospital.

Dengue haemorrhagic fever claimed 14 lives so far this year. A total of 870 patients with dengue fever were hospitalised.

Meanwhile, talking to The daily Star, experts feared that the city might experience more dengue attacks this year than last year's because of absence of 'adequate' measures for cleaning the breeding spots for Aedes mosquito.

"We have not seen adequate steps by the city corporation or other organisations involved in creating public awareness about dengue. There are residents who still do not know where Aedes mosquito grows," said an expert studying insects.
