46 more with dengue fever hospitalised

Forty-six people with dengue fever were admitted to different city hospitals and clinics in the last 24 hours, sources said yesterday evening.

Dhaka Medical College Hospital admitted three of the patients, BIRDEM hospital four, Holy Family Red Crescent Hospital five and Dhaka Shishu Hospital one.

In private clinics and hospitals, 33 patients were admitted. Of them, four in Ibn Sina, three in All Care private hospital, two in Central Hospital, six in Samarita Hospital, seven in General Hospital, four in Comfort Nursing Home and three in Al-Raji Hospital.

Since January this year, 641 people infected with dengue virus were admitted to different hospitals and clinics in the city. Eleven of them died of dengue haemorrhagic fever and dengue shock syndrome.

According to a study in all the 90 wards of Dhaka City Corporation (DCC), Aedes mosquito which carries dengue virus has increased abnormally in recent months -- 10 to 15 times in some places.

The DCC has launched a special drive to destroy eggs of Aedes mosquito -- mostly found in earthen vases, empty tyres, flower pots, plastic containers etc.
