Dengue Prevention Programme 2001

Dhaka city has experienced heavy rain in late March and early April 2001. Nor'westers are also adding rain these days. These rainfall may have activated the eggs laid last year by Aedes to produce larvae in the following 10 days (watch out for Dengue affected areas)!

So this is the time to ACT NOW.

Emergency Preparedness

  • Clean up areas already identified last year.

  • Arrange miking in the locality to spread the impending danger.
  • Destroy immediately all unused containers from house.
  • Remove immediately all clay pot for flowers/plants from house.
  • Cover all stored water containers at all times
  • Do not allow water to stagnate inside and outside house.
  • Net your house carefully.
  • Spray insecticides before the breeding season inside (closets, dark places) and outside (cool and shaded areas)
  • Form a working group (Rapid Response Team) in the locality and visit every house and common place.
  • Group members may include yourself, ward commissioner, imam of mosques, public/social workers, school students/ scouts/girl guides, service organisations/clubs, media representative etc.
  • Take leadership in forming RRT if none is found.
