| The Storm One night, a company of fishermen went out on the great and fearsome sea. It was calm and peaceful, there was not a cloud in the sky, and the men's spirits were high. They planned to have a good catch and perhaps hear a few words from their master. Once they were out on the open ocean, their master grew weary and fell asleep. The men grew uncomfortable knowing that he was not awake to help them, should they come to danger. However, none would wake the master, and they cast out their nets to bring up the great swarms of fish. In the back of their minds, each was weary of his master's slumber. Perhaps it was this lack of faith that brought the storm upon them, but just as they had thrown down their nets, the sky suddenly became dark with storm clouds, and the sea became rough. The waves tossed the fishing boat about like a toy. They all tried desperately to get back to shore, but could not make the boat turn in the desired direction. Then they awoke their master, for they feared the worst and would have him save them. He looked up into their faces with an understanding air, and rose to his feet. With confidence the man raised his hands in the air and commanded the storm to stop. It obeyed him. The winds died down, the sea returned to a pleasant state of calm, and the men were able to return to shore. Only one of them spoke, "Truly this is the Son of God!" |
