| Youth, oh, eternal youth
Don't go one more day Wishing to be older You must choose another way And be a little bolder Youth, oh, eternal youth Be happy in your agelessness Don't be wishing change Enjoy this graciousness I know this may sound strange But, youth, oh, eternal youth Quit trying to outrun time You'll get there when you need to Quit trying so hard to climb Out of this self and into the new Youth, oh, ephemeral youth When you reach the end, what then? Is it all that you thought it would be? When did you lose your agelessness? When? To discover your own mortality? ----------------------------------------- We think the father was a collie The pup has all the marks of that breed But, it will become our folly When we find the affair was close indeed Our neighbor's dog looks quite jolly We could pin him, maybe, with the deed Oh, it's a girl... --------------------- Along the wild and rugged shore The mighty ship can fight no more She surrenders herself to the waves As each man, his own life, he saves Oh, but risk your life for another's sake You'll be alive still in the storm's wake For when all storms have come and gone It will matter then what you have done Oh yes, it will matter to you then, my son When the storm is come and gone It will matter what you've done If you lived your life for one Or gave that life - to all or none ------------------------------------- They crossed swords for King and Country Prepared to die, if it was necessary They placed their duty before their lives 'Twas thought of each, "for good, he strives" But, then that King became a beast Thought everyone but himself was least Then the Musketeers thought up a plan To replace that king, who was not a man They found his twin - of hidden face And fashioned him to take the place Of the dog-king - and this they did And France was successfully dog-king rid ------------------------------------------------- Needs, not greeds, should control each and every human goal, that life might not leave man empty, but make him whole. Seeds, not weeds, should be grown and a good crop be sewn, that life might leave man with plenty, and not bare bone. --------------------------------- Come on baby; let's do the twist Get a little closer to me Feel the rhythm - movin' in me Dance and live the feelin' through me Come on baby; let's do the twist And just in case you've missed the "gist" Get a little closer to me Love and feel the rhythm in me Don't forget you're livin' through me It might be your last dance, baby But, I'm not done dancing, honey ---------------------------------------- |
I work as a waitress at the greasy spoon
I get off work at six hours past noon You wanna take me for a ride, as we gaze at the moon? Or, no time for gazin', just kiss me 'till I swoon Well, dear, you won't hear this little lark croon Nor get me in a car with you anytime soon 'Cause, honey, if you think you're pickin' me up - you're a loon! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- It was the catfish stew that upset our little tabby He saw the old fish with whiskers and its big gills, large and flabby He said, "Look here, I'm a cat and supposed to chow on fish. But, here's a thing that's called a cat and it's lyin' - mighty nice - on a dish. "But, were I, just in theory, to eat this animal - you would then have to call me a cannibal." ------------------------------ When I was in my daze, and the world was gone, I looked around for you - but, you were also gone. When my daze was done, and the world remembered me, I didn't wait for you - and you didn't wait for me. ---------------------------------- There behind that tree the initials still read LY heart TE - LY is me - I still am, in my need, LY - and you, dear heart, are still TE but, somewhere you have written on some other tree the someone you love who hearts TE --------------------- Can't help myself, so I must rely on you. Toss me a line, here; I'm drowning! Don't walk away and leave me floundering about in the deep end. --------------------- "I could skin her alive!" Now don't get so uptight It'll be a'right You won't hafta skin 'er She's lost 'er sight And half 'er height She's old, man, 'real old No strength to fight Those eyes - no more bright You won't hafta skin 'er No more of 'er there left to skin ------------------------ That horror of tomorrow looms over me like a rain cloud - a harbinger of sorrow. I must wake and don again those vestments that scream so loud - then get soaked in rain. It comes down upon my head and I look up like someone proud - to note that sign of dread. But, those at school will say as if I thought to oppose the crowd - it did not rain today... ------------------------------- |
