She Possessed a Poetic Innocence
PART II
Continue
Just when you think that all is lost,
a dream is born anew
And you again have something to live for
a shred of hope to cling to

It becomes the ether of life--
that which sustains you
And each day dawns with new joy--
that Change might blow through

Hold tight to a dream, for no time else
will it matter what you do
If you have the chance to dream YOUR dream
but dream only of what's true
------------------------------------
Makes me smile
To see you try to dance
You look just like
A bear in a trance
-----------------------
That's why I'm smiling,
I care not if you know.
It's quite a funny thing,
When one tramples his own toe.
---------------------------------------
It was late one night
And the moon was not in sight
Nor was there at all
--Though I suppose you could call
The gleam from the stars a bright light

Blinding in that darkness, they gleamed
As if to be noticed, it seemed
And is it not true
--Perhaps just of you
That you closed your eyes then and dreamed?

And what of that dream, do you know?
Did it end the way all dreams go?
Or was this one grand?
--No mere grain of sand
Did it survive when you woke, or no?
--------------------------------------------
Dorothy says, "There's no place like home"
And with three clicks of her heels, all is fine
But, when is life ever that simple, I ask
If Oz-life was tough, dear, try mine

Caring for little people is very tough work
I have my own little munchkins, nine
Sally and Suzie and David and Paul
Rex the dog and Peaches the feline

Puddle the parakeet, Cindy the snake
And one pesky raccoon that won't take a break
Dorothy, my dear, give me those ruby shoes
I've put up with a lot and I want my dues

A quiet life with chickens and geese
Help me get away from here, please
-------------------------------------------
Seeking, he found what he had not sought;
Searching for a net in which to be caught,
He found the will to love

Thinking, he thought what he could not believe;
Waiting for the pain, all his joy to relieve,
He thought he felt love
-----------------------------
Don't sit in the dark where the gringles wait
They feast on your fear, anxiety, and hate
But, a five-year old child, who has just left the gate
Has little to add to the gringles' plate

So, no monsters hide beneath your bed
No beasts in the closet, so lie down your head
Too soon you'll make new imps to be fed
And they'll get their fill before you're dead
--------------------------------------------------
Of the memory of what used to be,
I do not wish to think.
If I never see you again,
Nor to your health, drink.

If you never pass through my mind,
That part of me that knows,
I say I would not care;
The heart may break, but grows.

Healing Time will remove my hurt--
Remove you from my heart--
And I will be sane again,
Even if only part...

of who I am...
-----------------------------
In the thicket of things,
Where life gathers weeds,
And one can easily
Get caught in the brambles...
That's where you left me,
To die of a broken heart.
I cannot get up;
Your thorns hold me.
--------------------------
At the strike of midnight,
The moon refused to shine;
The stubborn stars would not...
through the night sky, climb.

The world was thrown into darkness.
The people were afraid.
A plea to the heavens,
they quickly made.

"Oh, what have we done,
to anger you giants?
What did we do,
to try your great patience?"

The stars, they were silent.
Still stubborn as ever.
The moon, still in hiding,
must have thought herself clever.

Then a voice could be heard
upon the still air.
Of a man, or a spirit,
but no one was there.

Still, it called out:
"Dear people of Earth,
I have cared for you all.
I brought you all up from birth.

"Now why ask for the moon
and poor stars to shine,
yet refuse to say
that these things are mine?

"Look not to the skies,
to shine upon thee.
But, see the Lord God beyond,
and call upon Me."
----------------------
Let yourself go
From your head
To your toe
Don't bother
With make-up
Or hair when
You wake-up
Look in the mirror
And say "Glory Be!
How I love
In the mornings,
Just to be me!"
