Friends Don't Let Friends Do That

You didn't want to go
I talked you in
I told you it would be fun

You didn't know
If you would fit in
You thought I was jumping the gun

You said you'd stay home
Away from the others
You didn't want to go outside

You picked up a book of poems
And began to peruse its covers
But, suddenly put it aside

You went for your hat
You took up your coat
You knew what you wanted to do

"Lets go to that
Party, and we'll laugh and we'll joke
As long as I can be with you

"We're friends
And we will not part
Not now, not ever, not soon"

He knew how I tend
To drink more than I ought
To the point that I often swoon

I felt a tear roll
Down my red hot cheek
And splatter onto the floor

My friend, you play a role
That no one else can seek
You are not only my companion, you are so much more
