| Broken Wings
I watch the birds as they fly towards daylights end And wonder why I cannot follow and pretend That I was just as free as those birds whove tamed the air Few beasts are quite so boldthey do not dare But, II, like Da Vinci, dream of flight Of being free to go which place I might Oh! Amelia and Lindberg, the Right brothers, too I imagine I know the reasons why they flew: To defy the bonds of earth, and touch the sky To solidify their faith before theyd die To hold all knowledge and all power in their hands Yet, realize their weakness at His commands But, Icarus reminds us: dont get carried away We know that humans have that unfortunate way Of letting Pride take over and lay them low Or becoming rash and serving their own final blow Yet, we dream of flying, because we cannot Just as we dream of other things, not of our lot Alas, it is over, I no longer can pretend And day-dreaming has met its final end My heart sinksI think no more of flight As the Sun disappears, and so does all light A heart that is low, is not likely to sing For, the lowest of hearts is the most immobile thing Much like a bird with a broken wing I have broken wings |
