The Book

Oh! What wonders have my eyes read!
What knowledge have they found!
In tomes of wisdom, long thought dead,
Burried beneath the ground.

In their pages lie our futures,
Our strength sustained in ink.
So, peruse their tattered covers;
Upon their ideas, think.

For time is much too short, my son,
To live on constant joy.
I think you'll find it much more fun
To make a book your toy.

For no one knows how life may end
We only can conclude.
But, what we choose can all depend
On what we should elude.

But, I know that all I do in life,
Could never be my aim.
For our time here is constant strife,
A never-ending game.

So, achieve purpose in the truth;
It takes a time to find.
So, you must begin now, in youth;
To feed your probing mind.

Through your books, you shall find the key;
Make sure to look at all.
For some of them teach how to be;
And how not--to sin fall.

The Good Book is but one of them;
I've found as life endures,
The Bible is most genuine
And helpful through the years.

So, live your life as per the Book;
If nothing else, you do.
And only then to pleasure look;
There will be nought to rue.
