| Interview with HORROR STORY Pt. II |
Pretty Vacant: Haha, yeah. Music is pretty important. Especially if you know it's good music. HORROR STORY: lt's just cause we can't get jobs, and this city is pretty boring, so we play rock n roll music as much as we can. Pretty Vacant: Rock on, man. HORROR STORY: Hell yeah, for sure, we all believe in what we are doing 100%. Other people who haven't had the dedication and enthusiasm have dropped by the wayside over the years. Pretty Vacant: Yeah. It's sad for sure. HORROR STORY: Sad for them, haha. Their loss, I guess. Pretty Vacant: Ha, yeah. So H.S. was asked to cover a Misfit song for the Tribute album right? How did that feel? HORROR STORY: Yeah. A couple of years ago, that was the first contact H.S. had had from overseas, it felt good to be associated with that, especially for our label Demon Nation, our other bands Phantomzone and Nekrotika did a song as well, we sent them off, and didn't hear anything for ages. Then they e-mail us back saying they didn't think the misfits covers were good enough for the tribute, but they liked the original songs so much they agreed to distribute H. S. in north America, apparently the 2nd pressing of the tribute will have Horror Story on it, but when that happens I don't know. That led on to being dstrod in Germany as well. But with our new album "Bride of the Monster", we have sent promo copies to some American labels we think might be keen to do a proper licensing and merchandise deal for us over there. It's gotten to the point where we can't afford to run things from New Plymouth at the bottom of the world, so to be properly represented in America and Europe would be pretty wicked. Pretty Vacant: Oh yeah, definitely. How did it feel for you at H. S.'s first gig? Extreme nervousness or were you cool about it? HORROR STORY: I was a little nervous, I had only had a couple of jams with the whole band at that point, because I was a fan I knew the songs, which helped. It was a good gig, we played with Sommerset who are one of the "top-level" bands in N. Z. and Day of Contempt who have just been signed to Epitaph. Dudes on those bands seemed to dig it. But because Toxic and Semop and myself had played gigs as the GoatFucking Nunrapers before I felt comfortable with them playing Horror Story songs. Pretty Vacant: Which makes it easier to play live I would think. HORROR STORY: Yeah. Pretty Vacant: But does H.S. have a website where one can go to listen to songs or buy the CD? HORROR STORY: www.nprocknroll.muzic.net.nz/horrorstory We've actually sold out of C.Ds in America, and we've run out of merchandise down here in N. Z. We've just found out we are being bootlegged in the states, so hopefully if one of these labels picks us up, we can flood the market with authorized CD's and merchandise, haha. Pretty Vacant: Haha, hopefully. Okay, so last question. As a fellow Misfit fiend...what's your favorite song by them? And do you like them with Glenn Danzig better? HORROR STORY: A fave song? that's always a hard one. As for the Danzig Vs Graves thing, I dig both singers. The music's just the same, of course with 20 years of studio technology and bigger recording budgets the Graves era stuff will always sound different to the raw Danzig era stuff. But I dig them both, and the rest of the band feels that way too. But it seems the "cool" thing to do is to bag Graves, but were not that stupid. The graves album "Web of Dharma" (with C.H.U.D. on drums) rules, the Dr. C.H.U.D.'s X-Ward albums rules as much as Samhain/Danzig or the Undead or any of the other projects Misfits members have done over the years. That last part is my own opinion on that, I'll have to ask the rest of the lads to see what their personal opinion is, haha. Pretty Vacant: Haha, yeah. I've always been a fan of the band. I liked them pretty much the same. Although I think Danzig (the band) is way awesome, so I'm pretty happy Glenn left. But thanks for helping out the Zine. We appreciate it a lot. Good luck with the band. HORROR STORY: Hey, fangs for putting us in your zine! \m/ Pretty Vacant: Haha, no prob. \m/ |
