Interview with Freakdrive

Pretty Vacant zine : I'm from Montgomery and I moved in this area a couple years ago, there isn't any place in Wetumpka, Tallasee or even Montgomery that I think would have a good rock concert. Where do you guys usually play? do you play any all ages shows?

FreakDrive : We play all ages shows a lot.  Most of our shows will be all ages because most of the kids that like our type of music are teenagers like us.  Otherwise, there's a few good bars to play around the Montgomery/Auburn area, and we intend to play some of those soon.  We're trying to throw as many shows as we can in the Tallassee/Eclectic/Reeltown area too, cause nothing ever happens around here.  In fact, we're going to be throwing our own festival in Eclectic during the Spring of 2006 with many other bands playing with us.

Pretty Vacant zine : Freakdrive's music is killer--it's dark, unrestraining and unpredictable, yet beautiful in it's black wings. What could we expect from a Freakdrive show?

FreakDrive : Wow, that's a very flattering description!  Especially the "beautiful in it's black wings" part!  We try to incorporate the oldschool 70's punk sound with a few modern twists.  We're a punk band with strong metal influences.  As far as what to expect at a Freak Drive show, you should just expect the unexpected.  We're not the typical "walk on stage and play whatever" sort of band.  Stage presence and crowd involvement are two VERY important aspects for what we do.  We're not just artists, we're entertainers.

Pretty Vacant zine : So you've been together for just over a year. What was it like putting a band together and getting to where you are now?

FreakDrive :  Long story short, Corpus (vocals) and Boone (guitar) tried to form a band since 2004.  The final lineup was secured in August of 2005, and we started gigging in September.  Putting a band together can be A LOT of work, and for our case it most definately was.  However, now we're stronger than we ever could've imagined and only great things are in our future.  We're gonna take over the world.

Pretty Vacant zine : I know Freakdrive is still pretty young, but have you guys recorded an album yet?

FreakDrive : Nope, we're working on a demo that should be finished by the end of this year.  An album?  I imagine we'll have one completed sometime in 2006!

Pretty Vacant zine : When you began, were you guys a cover band? Or are you?

FreakDrive :  We started entirely cover band.  Since then, we've began incorporating originals as we get them written.  Fact is, as a local act, people want to hear some covers.  Most people prefer to listen to music they've heard before, and if we were to take stage believing that people want to hear only what we've written, we'd be terribly mistaken.  The covers we choose to do are mostly 70's punk, because we all feel that kids of today could really get into that music if they are given the chance to hear it.  All kids get to hear these days is Emo, and that just ain't right!

Pretty Vacant zine : I listened to the songs on your site, they're awesome. 'London dungeon' is my favorite. what would you say is your favorite song that you like to perform?

FreakDrive :  Thank you!  Everyone in the band agrees that "New Jersey Cemetary" is our favorite song to perform.  It's our most recent original, and it kicks some serious ass.

Pretty Vacant zine : What could we expect next from Freakdrive?

FreakDrive :  Right now we're in the process of writing more original material and recording it.  We're also planning a festival for Spring of 2006, and we are in talks with several different places that are interested in us playing there.  We're always looking for new musicians to jam with and other bands to gig with!  We strongly support our local scene, including all other genres of music.  Expect to hear from Freak Drive more and more in the coming years.  Right now we're just getting our feet wet, but soon we will become the best band the world has ever seen!
