Interview with Scorn from Eternal Unborn www.eternalunborn.net www.myspace.com/eternalunborn Pretty Vacant: so how did eternal unborn come to be? Scorn: Hmm, that's actually a really long story. I've been doing this for a long time. I started writing when I was 11. I got the name from a picture of a fetus in a jar. I worked with a close friend of mine and recorded songs with a mini cassette recorder and whatever other device we could get our hands on. I have always been writing on my own. But it wasn't until August of 2004 that I found the right people and actually began performing and working towards a more serious place in music. We actually managed to salvage 2 songs from the first run of recordings,I did. Pretty Vacant: That's awesome. And who are your bandmates? When did you guys meet and decide to form a band? Scorn: We've all been friends for years. I think it was just a strong desire to play that brought us together as a band. Pretty Vacant: Koolio, dude. What instrument do you play? Scorn: I am the vocalist. And I specialize in turning myself inside out for a group of strangers everytime we perform. It's an amazing experience really. Pretty Vacant: What are your live shows like? Scorn: Unpredictable. Sometimes violent. Often perverted. I tend to beat myself dizzy a lot. I like to think of my songs as a moment in my life I've captured, and every time we play it's reliving that feeling, so it gets really crazy sometimes. Pretty Vacant: Aww, hehe. What's the most important thing about your music to you? Scorn: The fact that I make it. I know a lot of people tend to claim it a completely selfish when "creating" and don't get me wrong, it's an AMAZING feeling. I couldn't live without it. But I feel it's almost a duty of mine to give something back to the world. All the times I spent alone in my room with nothing left to live for but a really great song. The most important thing is taking all that is negative in my life, every horrible memory and experience, And turning it into something beautiful. It's like spilling the poison to make the cure. Being able to use this gift to give people something to relate to. However insignificant I may be in the grand scheme, if I can make the smallest difference, that's what is important. Pretty Vacant: That's fucking beautiful, dude. The powers that lie in the pen when you write are endless, unbeatable and epic. Tell me, who are some writers you look up to, if any? Scorn: I am a huge fan of Christopher Hall for his work with Stabbing Westward and The Dreaming. Stabbing Westward CDs have gotten me through some of the most difficult times in my life. Also, Marilyn Manson had a big influence on me as a kid. Antichrist Superstar was the first CD I purchased on my own. I remember watching him on Headbangers Ball in '94/'95 and not really knowing what exactly I loved about it. But it certainly pissed my parents off! Pretty Vacant: Hehe yeah. I still remember Danzig and the Misfits when I was like 5, lol. And "Dope Show" was the first video by Manson that I remember. I loved it to death. Scorn: Haha, that's awesome! The first Manson video I saw was "Get Your Gunn". It was on an episode of Beavis and Butthead. Pretty Vacant: Yeah I remember that too! It owned, and still does. Scorn: Yeah. It's strange to see how someone can come around and turn the whole world upside down. The power of the pen I suppose. Pretty Vacant: If you could work with another band or artist, living or dead, who would it be? Scorn: Awe, that's a really tough question. I'm gonna go ahead and say Jim Morrison. I have read quite a few biographies and studied him as a performer. He isn't particularly someone I relate to. But I'd love to see what kind of shit we could get ourselves into. Pretty Vacant: He's a god, lol. And finally, what are your current plans for your band? Scorn: To close my eyes and run forward until I collapse... or make enough of an impact that my death will mean something. I'm such an egofuck. hah. We're in the process of recording another demo and hopefully we'll find ourselves playing regionally very soon. Pretty Vacant: lol Nah. Oh sweet! Well, Pretty Vacant wishes you the best of luck. For all the shit you've had to endure, and all the talent that you guys hold, you deserve to make it big. :D Thank you so much for letting us interview you ^_^ Scorn: Thank you for having me. I had fun. |
