PV: Broken Stone just released a new CD. How is that going?
BS: We actually get it shipped in tomorrow and are having our official release at the Music Mill in Indianapolis on Thursday. We just came off tour (unfortunately our cds were not done in time) so we burned some free samplers for everyone to check out. So far, the response has been great.
PV: Very cool. How do you guys feel about it? Is it an ultra-proud parent feeling or a unreal feeling when you think about it?
BS: A little of both; this project really is like having your first kid (not that any of us would know firsthand). It's something we have worked really hard at and are very proud of the final outcome. At the same time, it is a bit unreal to think that we have come as far as we have in a year and four months, and that the release is finally here.
PV: Sounds exciting. Congrats on it!!
BS: Thank you.
PV: Haha, I'm sorry. Who in Broken Stone am I talking to?
BS: Chris. I'm the guitarist and tend to do all the web stuff.
PV: Now here's a pretty standard question. Who are your musical influences and then..who are Broken Stone's?
BS: Thats a nice question. I think people can tell from our songs that we have a wide variety of influences. I personally am influenced heavily by 311 and Incubus. The other guys have things ranging from Stone Sour to Nickelback, to Staind and even Metallica. Our bassist tends to have a lot of Flea come out in his playing even though he didn't even listen to RHCP all that much.
PV: Yeah. I'm a pretty heavy into Les Claypool when I play bass, and I'm not a big Primus fan. I understand that. What would say is your favorite memory from the tour?
BS: So is he, haha. When the cops shut down US Beer Company in Chicago at around 1am! I guess we were loud and the bar got a big fine.  We only came out of the deal with $20 in gas money.
PV: Haha, ouch. $20 does not get you far now days.
BS: Not at all, especially in a van pulling a trailer, but, what can you do? It was a fun time, thats for sure, people were throwing stools around and stuff.
PV: Haha. So do all your shows get that...rowdy?
BS: Not that rowdy, but we always have a high energy set so we love it when people get into it too.
PV: That's always a plus when playing.
BS: For sure; the only problem we run into sometimes is not having a big enough stage. We have 5 guys, drums, guitar, bass and a keyboard we need to fit on stage so that doesn't help much either.
PV: Haha, I can imagine. So when your not playing/writing music, what are you doing? Hobbies?
BS: Sleeping. I know I am forced to spend quite a bit of time answering emails and booking shows. I design websites in my spare time for extra cash, but really, we are trying to jump into this thing full steam and so far it is not allowing us much freetime.
PV: Haha...sleep is good. No doubt about that. So I take it your pretty awesome in HTML? Oh, yeah. When you want something bad enough, I suppose it's worth it though.
BS: Yep. I'm actually just finishing up a site for another local band, Wasted Days.
PV: Ah very cool. This is sort of a off-the-wall question, but who is the movie character that you relate to most?
BS: That I relate to or the band relates to?
PV:  Both.
BS: That one might take me a sec.
PV: Haha, it's okay. Take your time.
BS: Jim Carey in Me Myself and Irene, for the band. Except with 5 personalities instead of 2.
PV: Haha, interesting.
BS: But, he pulls it together and it makes him a better person.
PV: Very true.
BS: Me, I have no idea.
PV: lol Alrighty. It's all good. What's your favorite song on the new CD? And where does the band get the ideas for the songs?
BS: We dont really have a favorite song as a whole. Becuase each band member has poured so much into every song, we have a hard time distinguishing a "better" song. So far from the response we have received both live and from the CD, "Never" seems to stand out. Musically, we will start with a riff that one of us comes up with and then everyone gets together to construct the song. Lyrically, our songs are based on life experiences.
