Interview with Patrik of 48sin www.48sin.com www.myspace.com/48sin Pretty Vacant: Tell me about your band, how did you come to be? 48sin: It started out as a solo thing almost 6 years ago. Over the years I picked up another guitar player, and eventually a drummer. As the sound continued to evolve, more players were needed to keep up. Thus, 48sin became a 'we.' Pretty Vacant: Kool. What instrument do you play? 48sin : I play guitar, but I also program synths too. I'm also the singer...and I scream occasionally too Pretty Vacant: Hehe sweet. Who all writes the lyrics? Is it just one person or do you collaborate with your bandmates? 48sin: As of right now, I've written all the lyrics Pretty Vacant: Kool. Is there anything in particular you like to write about more than anything or do you write about what's happening in the moment? 48sin: Usually it tends to be about what's going on with me at the moment. I like to keep it as honest as possible. Occasionally I write stuff about various moral theories, but that can get arrogant ;P Sometimes I write about how much I want a pug.... Pretty Vacant: A pug? 48sin: Yeah...those cute faces look like they got smashed by a twobyfour...so adorable Pretty Vacant: Aww, hehe yeah. What are your shows like? 48sin: A severe rocking of the testicular region. We sweat a lot, so I can promise a general wetness. I think most people are surprised when they see us live. We're electronic, but we're a rock band first and foremost. So, we treat everything as a rock show. Pretty Vacant: Rock on bitches. Who are some of your influences? 48sin: Personally, my influences are all over the board. Miles Davis is a huge one. I'm also way into Jeff Buckley. I'm really influenced by people who can entertain - people who can sit down and just play songs. Brasilian music has been a big influence lately; people like jobim and gilberto. 20th century composers do a lot for me too, like Prokofiev and de Falla. Prince too....Prince is the man. Pretty Vacant: For shizzle, hehe. Who would you like to perform with? Like another band. 48sin: I think Muse would be a big one for us. When I first heard them, I thought, "Hey! This guy writes songs like I do!" I think that would be a perfect tour. Otherwise, Placebo would be rad. I'd also like to get over to Japan and play with bands like Pierrot or Buck-Tick. There's this band in Brasil called Los Hermanos that I would kill to play with too. Or fuck, I'd like to play with anybody who can bring in people for us to mooch off of. Pretty Vacant: Hehehehe yes! Do you guys tour or just play locally? 48 sin: We play in the midwest area...so far. We live in Chicago, but have played in St. Louis, Indianapolis, and Milwaukee. We'll play wherever anyone wants us to play...we'll play your kegger...seriously. Pretty Vacant: Oh awesome. There are a few clubs around here that I know would be happy to have you. 48sin: Excellent! Be sure to tell them we rock balls. Pretty Vacant: Heck yes. So how long did it take you to learn guitar? 48sin: well...it's taken me 11 years so far, and I'm still learning. There's always more to learn Pretty Vacant: Oh wows. Yeah, never stop. What are your bandmates like? 48sin : Boring as fuck. Hah! just kidding. Fun guys...they can outdrink me any day of the week, especially the days in which I'm not drinking. 48sin wouldn't be the same without them Pretty Vacant: Aww, that's great. There's too many bands these days that break up. I blame the Beatles, lol 48sin: ...and we're all huge beatles fans, so it works out nicely Pretty Vacant: True ^_^ .What are some messages you hope to deliver to those who listen to your music? 48sin: I think my main message is to be educated. Do your research. Don't make any judgements without knowing what you're talking about. We just want people to be open minded to everything...and to have fun. For fucksake, don't mourn your music. Pretty Vacant: Of course. What do you see your band doing next? 48sin: We're finishing up demos for 2 new tracks that will see the light of day soon. They sound a bit different from things we've done before. One is more metal than we've done before, and another is more poppy. We're also putting a horn section in one. After that, we'll just have to see where it takes us. Although I'm sure I could see us drinking...a lot...soon. Pretty Vacant: Hehehehe that's fucking great dude. We at Pretty Vacant wish you all the best. Thanks for doing this interview with us :D 48sin: My pleasure. |
