As a child growing up, Fehr played hockey and several other sports, but his mind was not totally consumed with sports. He also excelled at school, especially science and maths and was, at one point considering a career in teaching. At the age of 17, to pay his way through college, Brendan had a couple of part-time jobs. One of which was a Summer job for a lawn care company.....spraying lawns with fertilizers and chemicals to maintain their health. The work was hard and he worked long hours, but he found it rewarding and was referred to as "an employer's dream" and "one of the best employees we ever had" by his former boss. During the Winter he worked for a company who delivered floor mats and yet again, he was well-liked by his employers and co-workers......"If I could hire people like Brendan every year I'd be thrilled. People like him don't come along very often."

All of his hard work paid off when he graduated with first class honours (a 90% average) and was accepted to the University of Manitoba, his idea of a career and future took a change of direction after a discussion over lunch with his lawn care co-workers. The subject?....modelling. They were intruiged by the thought of being paid to wear new clothes and smile for the camaras, Fehr decided to see if he had what it takes and started out modeling for the flyers of super stores. That went well for him, so he decided to look for other work in this field and sure enough, he got his first shot at acting in a short, low budget movie. In 1997, one week before starting his freshman year of college whilst on a trip to British Columbia, he decided to check out the local modelling agencies, he was asked if he wanted to be on TV by his now manager and things carried on from there. There was now the small issue of college to deal with, and to help him with his decision he asked his mother what he should do and thankfully for all of us Fehr fans, she told him that now was the time to do it and college could wait for a while. After a couple of weeks, Fehr had a role on a Canadian TV series 'Breaker High', followed by several TV movies -'Our Guys' (alongside Ally Sheedy and Eric Stoltz) 'Perfect Little Angels' and 'Every Mother's Worst Fear'. Next up was a guest-starring role on TV show 'Millenium' and a blink-and-you-miss-him role in Disturbing Behaviour (also starring Katie Holmes and James Marsden), a movie that would see a trio of soon to be Roswellians working together for the first time, William Sadler and one of Roswell's creators, David Nutter.

Soon after, Brendan was asked to try out for Roswell, at first he was a little unsure about a series concerning teenage aliens, but when he knew Nutter was involved, his mind changed almost instantly, he first read for the role of Max, but it soon became obvious that Michael was the character for him and he has gone from strength to strength gaining a large number of "Fehrians" (the name used by fans of Brendan to describe themselves).

Brendan Fehr has had recent roles in Final Destination alongside Ali Larter, Kerr Smith, Devon Sawa and Sean William Scott and also The Forsaken, a teen vampire road movie again, alongside Kerr Smith.
