Irish Jarod Challenge

Write a story where Jarod is in Ireland and finds himself 
adopted by the men in a pub; they can't be IRA or anything 
nasty like that, but they can be either settled or Travellers, and
 they basically make Jarod their son.  What would they do if 
sweepers showed up?  Bonus: Can you work in a properly paternal 
response from these men to MP when she comes in with gun and attitude drawn?
