Katya, secrets and lies of the centre
by Street
From the dark sublevels of the centre a young girl secretly gathered up dsa's
and a silver
case and crawled into to the vent shaft through the grate opening.
Sydney's Office
Alarms rang. Broots ran into Sydney's office and stopped dead in his tracks in
front
of psychiatrist Sydney and Ms. Parker. "Syd! ms. parker! y-you'd n-never
believe w-what just happened!"
Ms. Parker shot him her best ice queen glare. "I don't know Broots, the
alarms are ringing.
did someone escape?" she readied her weapon and followed a team of
sweepers to the vent shaft where she'd apparently stopped for a breath before
completely getting out. Parker ran to the vent shaft opening and pulled the
grate open, pointing her weapon into it. "nothing! she's escaping! find
her now!"
Sydney and Broots joined her in the corridor moments later. Parker knew Syd was
hiding something.
He knew of this girl, he had to. "Syd, do you know who the girl is that
just escaped? I want the truth!"
"I do know of her, I've seen her before. She does remind me of you and
Jarod both Ms. Parker."
Broots eyes widened. "you don't think they're..?" he stopped. He
shouldn't say it out loud, not around her.
Outside the Centre
exit from the vent shaft
the girl exited the vent shaft tunnel and headed out, not sure of where to go. She'd
have to blend in so she wouldn't be caught.
At the same time back in the Centre, Jarod was placing his latest call into
Sydney.
Sydney picked up the phone, answering. "This is Sydney." "Syd."
"Jarod. I was beginning
to worry. A girl escaped today. another pretender. She reminded me of you
Jarod."
"Of me Sydney?" Jarod was beginning to wonder what the Centre was up
to now. " where are you Jarod?"
"Very funny Syd. An apple a day makes.. well, I won't say anymore."
Jarod smiled and hung the phone up.
Sydney set the phone down, unsure of what to make of Jarod's rhyme he had
nearly finished.
"makes a substitute teacher very happy!" Jarod finished as he got
ready for his next pretend.
At the same time, the pretender who escaped was making her way into the city to
a nearby school to blend in as a student.
The next morning a young girl joined in on a science class...
"Morning class!" said an excited, tall, handsome 30 something Jarod
Russell.
"I'm Mr. Russell, I'll be substituting the class while your teacher is
away on vacation."
the rest of the class cheered and laughed, and asked questions of this new
substitute.
One girl in the back remained silent. Jarod hushed the class and asked the girl
who she was
and why she was so quiet. "Do you have a name?" He asked, hoping she
would answer.
"My name is Katya." She answered. "Katya, that's a beautiful
name. Do you have a last name?"
"No. I don't know my last name." She was silent again. Jarod let it
go at that and returned to teaching.
He was sure she was the one Syd told him about. She had to be. They were just
outside of blue cove in fact and that scared him. the centre could find them
and be here anytime.
The Centre
Blue Cove, Delaware
"An apple a day.." Sydney thought, trying to finish Jarod's rhyme. He
figured it out within a couple more
moments and found Broots. Broots left Sydney and ran for ms. Parker's office.
"Ms. Parker.
Sydney thinks he knows where Jarod is! and you'd never believe where!" Usually
when Broots said you'd never guess where, it meant Jarod was close. "Where
Broots?" she gritted her teeth, waiting for an answer. She'd go get Syd's
little wonder boy back and be promoted by Daddy.
"He's just outside of Blue Cove, substituting at a school." Parker
grabbed her jacket and dragged Broots
along to Sydney's office and got Syd and headed for a car.
Somewhere outside Blue Cove...
Jarod walked with Katya down the sidewalk after class. He had no doubts she was
the girl from the Centre.
He told her she could stay with him until she got a place or he had to leave. A
few moments later, a town car arrived, pulling alongside the school Jarod had
been at. Getting out of the car, a sweeper noticed Jarod just down the street
and pointed him out to Parker. "Get him!" she yelled, getting back in
the car
to follow them as the sweepers ran ahead. Jarod turned just in time, noticing
the sweepers fast approaching. He took Katya's hand and pulled her along as
they ran. He noticed a public bus nearby and they both ran onto the bus,
knowing the centre could not pull over the bus without the public getting
involved or a few select police. Both took their seats as the bus pulled away
from Ms. Parker and the centre town cars. As Jarod and Katya settled down,
Jarod realization of who this girl was all came flooding back on him.
"Jarod, there's something you should know." She spoke up, not knowing
what he would say. He swallowed hard as he waited to hear her story.
"I guess I should probably start off with what I know huh
Jarod?" he said nothing, just nodded.
" Well, here goes nothing as they say, I broke out of that place in Blue
Cove, the place we call the centre.
I'm guessing you're from there as well. I broke free and took my dsa's with me.
I needed to blend in so
they couldn't find me. I remember hearing talk about a man named Jarod. That's
you right?
I knew I had to find you." she stopped waiting for a response from him. "yes,
I'm Jarod. You were
the girl Sydney mentioned over the phone. Do you know who your parents
are?" He asked. He doubted she knew. "I don't know who they are. I
only know my first name. I'm sorry I don't know more about it." Sydney
picked up his cell phone and called Sydney.
Back at the centre Sydney picked up the ringing phone. "This is
Sydney." Syd held the phone out a ways like usual and waited to hear the
other end, somehow he knew it was Jarod.
"Hello Sydney." Sydney smiled. "Jarod. my god, where are
you?"
"Cute. sorry Syd. no hints this time. I'm wondering about this pretender
sitting next to me. Who is she Syd?"
"I wanted to know myself. The Centre keeps identification, like blood
samples. I found those and sent them in.
the latest pretenders and hers and had them compared. Broots should be here
with the results any moment Jarod." A minute later Broots entered Syd's
office. "you'd never believe who the parents of that girl are Syd!"
Broots stuttered. "who are they Broots?" he asked in his welsh voice,
pointing to the phone.
"That little girl is Jarod and Ms. Parker's child! The centre created her
from their dna Syd!" Sydney wasn't surprised. He thought they might try
that. It was best that she was with Jarod now. "Jarod.
That girl sitting next to you, is the daughter of you and ms. parker." He
could almost feel how Jarod felt, see the look on his face. "Thank you
Sydney." Jarod disconnected and looked over at the girl he now knew was
his daughter. "I'm your father."
The bus came to a stop just to the side of a bank. He looked out the window in
surprise. this was where he wanted to stop. He had found another safe box
registered to Catherine at this very bank!
He signalled for her to get up and they left the bus. "Where are we going
Jarod?" they walked toward the bank.
"To find the truth." He walked up to the door and held the door open
for his daughter. The next part would require a pretend. Jarod Parker. He found
an empty teller desk, giving his ID as Jarod Parker, they were led to the safe
box in the back that Catherine had left. there were files inside. they would
lead to the truth.
He chose the first one on the top of the pile inside and read the beginning.
written by Catherine Parker.
The truth is in the scrolls. they are powerful. they tell the future. I wish
for them to be destroyed or hidden where they will never be found. The futures
inside the scrolls talks of the pretenders in this very building. Jarod is the
boy. My sister's son. I wish the pretender projects to be stopped.
At the bottom of the letter however, the thoughts changed. Jarod
continued reading on. I have chosen not to send this letter to anyone, but to
leave a note for Jarod, my nephew, and my darling daughter Madeleine. I hope
you have escaped Jarod. A DSA has been hidden with all the secrets and lies of
the centre. The truth can be found there. You will all know who you are by
seeing this DSA disc. you must find it's location first.
The letter ended there. Someone had to go to the centre to get the disc, but
who? how would they without being captured? what about Angelo on the inside?
could he find or even have the disc. he's always full of surprises.
"I need to find that DSA Katya. It tells who I am." Jarod was silent.
"You will find out who you are Jarod, but where does that leave me? I know
who my parents are now, but who are my grandparents?"
Broots and Sydney were unsure whether to tell Ms. Parker about her and
Jarod's daughter. It was a cruel thing the centre did trying to create someone
who suited both the pretender skills and insight. Broots fidgeted in the chair
in Syd’s office. "I don't know what we should do Syd!"
"We can't tell Ms. Parker. She can't find out Broots!" Syd was angry.
Unnoticed, Ms. Parker
walked into Sydney's office. "Tell me what?" she stood with a fake
smile on her face. They had to tell her something, what was it? "Syd?"
she stared Sydney down. If looks could kill a person, Sydney would be dead. "I
won't be a part of this Ms. Parker!" he stomped out of his office. She
stepped over to Broots and grabbed his shirt collar. "Tell me what Broots!
you better tell me!" Finally scared enough, he let out the truth. "You
and Jarod have a. .well.." he stuttered and couldn't finish. "Have a
what Broots?" She was gritting her teeth. "have a daughter. the
centre created. They wanted another pretender and someone with the insight or
inner sense like you have Ms. Parker." She let go of his collar and stood
back. "I can't believe this! That girl that escaped. That was her wasn't
it!" She definitely wring someone's neck for this. "I need to leave. I'm
going home.
If anyone asks Broots, I got sick and went home. I think I'm gonna be sick. Find
Jarod and my daughter and tell no one but me where they are.. got it?" he
nodded his understanding as she left and headed home.
Outside of Blue Cove
After they left taking Catherine's information from the safe box, they found a
motel to stay in until they could find Jarod's mother . he opened his computer
and got into the centre data files, looking for any information on his mother
or any code names used for her. Ben had once said Catherine called her Dorothy.
He searched Centre data files for "Dorothy" since he knew his
mother's name was Margaret. One file came up and began decrypting. It was a
hidden message from his mother! the file played through. She gave her location
as Carthis.
She went back there! He could get to her. The centre didn't know where they
were. He called in plane tickets under an alias for him and his daughter for
Carthis that night. They packed up their things and drove to the nearest airport
in a rental car.
That night as Ms. Parker returned home and headed for a good rest in bed. She
dozed off but it wasn't dreams she had, it was nightmares. In the nightmare she
was at the centre, the sweepers had dragged Jarod in, but her daughter was nowhere
to be seen and the second one had been worse. Her daughter and Jarod had been
brought in, but Raines had her. She woke startled. She had to find Jarod and
her daughter and keep them out of reach of the centre. The horrors of the
centre had to end. She got ready for the day and headed for the centre, hoping
Broots had found them.
Somewhere on Carthis
Jarod and Katya headed for the church where Jarod had found refuge the first
time he had come to the island. His mother would be here. He could feel it. They
went inside as he showed the picture to the brothers around the monastery. One
recognized the photo and led them to a room. as he opened the door, a woman
with red hair approached, breaking into tears. "Mom!" Jarod yelled,
running into her arms. The three sat down
on the bed and tried to stop the tears. They were finally together. Margaret
pulled Jarod into her arms.
"I have so much to tell you my Jarod." He cried on her shoulder. "Mom,
who am I? why does the Centre want me?" He hoped she knew all the answers.
"Jarod, Catherine Parker is my sister. After she married
Mr. Parker, she told me about a place called NuGenesis. your father and I went
there so I could have you.
we weren't told was that just after you were born, you were given a genetic
marker and found to have vast abilities. a genius ability. I soon found out
that your brother Kyle, Catherine's child Madeleine, Timmy, who would later be
Angelo, and a dozen other children were also marked with that same genetic
marker. The Centre's madness continued and I had to stay on the run from all of
them. Your father and I came into contact once and found that your clone and
Ethan both had the same marker." He was amazed at all she said. She paused
a moment and stared at the child next to Jarod. "Who's the girl
Jarod?" Katya smiled at Margaret. "This is your granddaughter,
courtesy of Centre genetics Experiments."
