A bunch of Sierrans from Ft. Worth and vacinity head west to New Mexico for a long week-end of back-packing and other wilderness delights high above Santa Fe. Nine of us meet at the ROAD CLOSED sign way up Artists Road, where we are told the wilderness is closed due to intense fire danger! Not to be deterred for long, we find out where the forrest is not closed, and head back through Santa Fe, another area, through Pecos, NM.Here are some shots of the proceedings.

After a rocky trail through woods, with a steady elevation gain, a late afternoon camp was set up in the first agreable meadow. It was quite lovely, with wild flowers, deer and antelope grazed grass. But dry. We decided to move on next morning to a base camp with running water. So we set out early to Jacks Creek. Higher, but wetter! Around Round Mountain
Three took the long way. One of them took an extra long way!!!! (the one with the bottle.)The Jacks Creek camp was wilder and higher.Dejeuner sur l'herb![]()
