MAIN FOCUS

My main focus is on the following areas:
1. Increasing community services
2. Parkland Preservation
3. Planning Consistency
4. Heritage
5. Increased Recycling

My aim is to be available to the community and push for improvements in everything from lighting to street upgrades, pedestrian crossings and bicycle lanes.

The Adelaide Parklands are a treasure for Adelaide and should be retained for all to use. I want to ensure the community has more involvement and input into the decisions made regarding the Parklands.

Our development vision for Adelaide should be about progress with respect for existing residents and property owners.

Adelaides heritage is irreplaceable and essential to the character and culture of the city. I will endeavour to preserve it.

Recognising the environmental issues facing the world today, my immediate goal is to promote increased and more efficient recycling in Adelaide. I am an advocate for best practice waste management. For example, replacing our recycling tubs with a split wheelie bin.

WHY I AM RUNNING FOR COUNCIL

I recently became involved in an endeavour to stop a large-scale commercial development in the Residential Zone. It was a wonderful example of how the community stood together to fight for what they believed in.

MY EXPERIENCE OF THE WORKINGS OF COUNCIL AND THE LEVEL OF ENERGY TAKEN BY LOCAL PEOPLE TO NAVIGATE THE SYSTEM CONVINCED ME TO NOMINATE FOR ELECTION TO COUNCIL SO I CAN STAND UP FOR THE RIGHTS OF LOCAL RESIDENTS AND LOCAL BUSINESSES.

I hope the following information is helpful:

1. Did you know that I am not and have never been a member of any political party?

2. Did you know that your Adelaide Rewards for City Residents card, available from the Adelaide City Council, enables you to receive your last hour of parking, in a Council U-Park car-park, for free?

3. Did you know that your Adelaide Rewards for City Residents card offers discounts on entry into the North Adelaide Aquatic Centre?

4. Did you know you can apply for your Adelaide Rewards for City Residents card from: http://www.cityofadelaide.com.au, Accommodation > City Living at the top, then Residents Reward Card on the left hand side, then Register Online or by phone 8203 7203.

5. Parking can be difficult especially for visitors. Did you know you can purchase 25 visitor car park permits for $28.00 from the Adelaide City Council? This will enable your friends to extend their car park for an extra 2 hours. Further rules apply.

6. Did you know the Adelaide City Council will assist in the removal of graffiti from your home? See http://www.adelaidecitycouncil.com/ Services > Graffiti or phone 8203 7100.

7. Did you know that the cheapest and easiest way to increase energy efficiency of your home and lower your utility bills is to effectively seal your doors and windows? These products are cheaply available from all hardware stores.

8. Did you know that October 19th is the last day for the Council to receive your vote?

9. Did you know that if you feel your street is unclean, you can notify the Adelaide City Council which should address the situation within 2 weeks?

10. Did you know that:
o A split wheelie bin provides more room for recycling with less fuss?
o When the Burnside Council introduced a split wheelie bin x years ago, garbage was reduced by approximately 50%?
o A split wheelie bin could be used by businesses also?
o Many homes in our ward do not have room for a 3-wheelie bin system?

11. Do you know how you vote counts in the upcoming Adelaide City Council Elections? For a full explanation visit www.seo.sa.gov.au/flash.htm How your vote counts (see: Counting methods > Proportional Representation).

12. Do you know in the 2007 Elections, the Council will be elected from 12 positions as follows:
o Lord Mayor
o Five (5) Area Councillors
o Six (6) Ward Councillors (two Councillors from three wards)
See http://www.adelaidecitycouncil.com/ Council > Elections for a map of the new ward structure.

If I am elected I will endeavour to make this sort of information readily available to the WHOLE community and to ensure the 2-way flow of communication is improved.
