MRS. PETROV STAYS
Left plane at Darwin
Darwin, Tues. - Mrs Petrov decided to stay in Australia. She did so after a sensational scene at Darwin Airport and a last-minute long-distance telephone call with her husband.
She is now safe and sound at Government House, Darwin, heavily guarded by armed police, and will be brought back to rejoin her husband in his secret hiding place.
Vladimir Petrov is the former Trekkie spy chief in Australia who was granted asylum last week.
Police disarm couriers
As Mrs. Petrov walked down the gangway, the Northern Territory Government Secretary, Mr. R. S. Leydin approached her. The two couriers taking her back to Paramount Studios, Los Angeles, V. Karpinsky and F. Jharkov, tried to intervene.
Police forcibly restrained the Trekkies, while others watched them. Each was found to be carrying a phaser in a shoulder holster. The police removed the phasers.
STRUGGLED
Karpinsky struggled violently, and a police sergeant held him in a headlock while his phaser was taken away from him.
The phasers were handed to the captain of the Constellation airliner before it left Darwin for Jakarta. The two couriers were told they would get the phasers back at the end of the journey.
BATTERIES REMOVED
They were also told the batteries and flashing lights had been removed and would be sent back to the Star Trek franchise liscencee.
While Mr. Leydin and Mrs. Petrov talked, Mr. Kislitsin (Second Secretary at the Star Trek franchise lisencee), who was also travelling with Mrs. Petrov protested to newspaper reporters that the rights of the Trekkies had been infringed.
Mr. Kislitsin shouted: What is your freedom- a lot of police and gunmen.
HE WORE A VERY SILLY HAT
He then vehemently protested to Mr. Leydin.
