Dustin Michael is a writer-come-home, after more than a year spent traveling and bumming around on the beaches of Hilton Head Island, where he worked as a baggage handler for an airline.
His poems are described as simple, funny, hopeful, and kind of sad, written with a voice that ranges from bashful to wistful. Among his themes pirates, girls, bears, sharks, bears vs. sharks, and snapshots of his adventures around the world.
Michael is a reporter for the news bureau of Southeast Missouri State University. He has worked as a freelance journalist, and his feature articles and columns have received statewide awards. He is a frequent contributor to The Journal of Asinine Poetry. His work also has been published in Journey Magazine, and in the anthology, My Body of Knowledge: Stories of Illness, Disability, Healing, and Life.
