Pickle Day

Celebrate on one of the last ten days in September

Pickle Puppets- Cut pickle shapes out of green construction paper. Let the children draw on facial features. Let them glue on green arms and legs. Attach popsicle sticks to the backs of the pickle shapes for handles.

PETER PIPER

Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers
A peck of pickled peppers Peter Piper picked
If Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers
Where's the peck of pickled peppers Peter Piper picked!

Pickle Snacks- Chop sweet and dill pickles into small bowls and place them on the table. Let the children sample both kinds and compare the tastes. Talk about the texture and color and how they are made from cucumbers. Then make tuna or egg salad sandwiches.

Before removing the pickles from a jar, let the children try guessing how many are inside. Then count the pickles with the children to see if their guesses were correct.

OH I WISH I HAD A NICKLE

(If You're Happy & You Know It)
Oh I wish I had a nickle, yes I do
Oh I wish I had a nickle, yes I do
Oh I wish I had a nickle
So that I could buy a pickle
Oh I wish I had a nickle, yes I do

I would gobble up that pickle, yes I would
I would gobble up that pickle, yes I would
I would munch and munch and munch
While I listened to it crunch
I would gobble up that pickle, yes I would
