Comments: hey thanks for posting the info on the compaq. funny thing, i always build my own systems for my home and found i needed a laptop for my hobby (digital photography) or i needed to lug around my home pc. silly me i bought a compaq 1200 xl106. it had win98se on it and ran rather well but 2 gb of the 5gb drive was missing. so i recovered them and formatted the whole thing as a single drive. then the fun began. all i had was the recovery cd and it says i need the recovery diskette also (don�t have).

Comments: I own the 1200 XL106. I bought it to have something to take with me on the road (having dumped much of my money into a very nice Quantex desktop). It runs Windows 98SE without troubles. I was quite taken back by the Compaq web site and the total lack of support in regards to driver updates for video and audio. I expected so much more from a big name. An e-mail to customer support was replied to about 2 weeks later and I was asked, basically, "Why would you want to update?" Huh?? Keep work

support issue, which is a shutdown hang and no-reboot on Presario 1275. My unit boots into the COMPAQ screen, blinking cursor at upper right corner, then starts "Save-from-Disk Manager", and gives Win98 shutdown screen. Same loop on every reboot. Will not read diskette or CD. Do you have any ideas? The official Compaq forum is long unanswered.
