Types

There are several differnt options for your summers.

Summer school- If you are doing poorly in a class, GPA is suffering, or what to lighten up your course load. Also prepare for classes next semster ie Kaplan's Organic preview class

Medical School Related Programs

These programs provide students a change to see what it is like to be a physician through mentorship. Some provide a simulation as to what it is like to be in medical school through coursewok. Some even have MCAt preparation bulit into the program.

Research Programs

Performing research allows one to apply the knowledge that you have learned in class to real life. Usually 6-12 weeks long. You can also try contracting a perticular lab that you would like to work in. This is a good way to start at NIH.

Other

There are a myriad of other opportunites for you to seek out including working for industry. Check out your school's career center. Also studying abroad can be a great experience.
