| Tactical... as a fashion statement |
| Black used to carry this title. Things that were of a professional grade carried this title. Things that were field tested and battle proven carried the name "Tactical." Today we witness the widespread degredation of all that was once sacred or otherwise noteworthy. "Tactical" used to make a certain claim as to the credibity and pedigree of a product. The word used to MEAN something! Today, one can easily find its presence in any corner of our society- toy stores, on the news, in any cheap mail order catalog, and yes, even in fashion magazines. The definition today is as follows:
1. Anything that is Green, or black or tan, or the new amalgamation of the three- "coyote." 2. Anything that is made of woven fabric of nylon, kevlar, or may contain traces of carbon, and is made in any of the above listed colors. May occasionally contain cotton, as long as it's "rip-stop" or "light-weight" or "breathable" or even "water resistant." 3. Containing multiple storage compartments, accessory rails or pockets or pouches accessible by velcro or directional snaps. 4. Designed for or intended to be affixed to a firearm; or a firearm designed to readily accept a ridiculous array of superfluous attachments and mechanical enhancements, many of which constitute a felony in some states. 5. Any object, material, or color that may be found in the immediate possession of any of the following: Scout Sniper, Navy Seal, Blackwater Security, DEA, ATF, SWAT, CIA, NSA, KGB, MI6, FBI HRT, CDC, , etc..., and may include but not limited to: Brinks Money truck driver, Mall Security, the Meter Maid, Logistics officer of the USAF, or US navy reservist in Omaha, Nebraska. 6. Requires that the object, material, or color be non-reflective. I'd like to insert my feelings here... An M1913 picatinny arsenal rail mount does not make your gun "tactical." A digital camo paint job does not make your gun "tactical." A flashlight does not make your gun "tactical." A laser sight does not make your gun "tactical." A black nylon sling does not make your gun "tactical." IT'S HOW YOU USE IT DUMMY! "Tactical" relates to any aggressive engagment that may or may not involve firearms. Tact can be used in a conversation, for example. On a larger scale is Tactic's big brother, Strategy. Strategy is the plan for the begining and end of this engagement. Essentailly, strategy is where you are now, and where you'd like to go, and how to acheive that. Tactics are what happen between. Strategy is an ever changing river of possibilities that takes genius to recognize. Tactics, believe it or not, are not a dynamic set of etherial transcendental suggestions that are open to interpretion- they are a strict set of guidelines. They are the cause and effect of the proverbial battlefield. To properly execute tactics takes absolute integrity. Tactics require strict obedience and the willingness to do one's job- trusting in the Strategist, that the end outcome will be for the benefit of the masses. Examples of the most recent applications of the word: Tactical illumination solution: Turn the lights off. Tactical transport device: backpack Tactical 2 dimensional indication device: pencil Tactical abdominal countermeasures: Black belt Tactical covert communication: whisper Tactical solar mitigation headgear: sunglasses Tactical communication device: black cell phone It's intersting to note that Gray has not made the list of "tactical" colors. I'd like to think that maybe the world has grown tired of gray because of its inherent connection to the suits worn by door-to-door salesmen in the 70s and 80s. Basically, any object, material, procedure, idea, color, device, or modern implementation of technology or resource intended to make a product more marketable to the modern day American consumer who in the very least wants to be ready, when comes the day of the rope . This web site could be "Tactical!" |
