Bedding...
Perhaps one of the most important preparations one can effect on his rifle to ensure supreme accuracy and consistency. Proper bedding procedure is not a matter of opinion. There is a right and wrong way to bed a rifle. Bedding should be done in a one step process. The bedding compound should form multiple mechanical locks with the stock, as well as chemical bonds to the stock's interior. The rifle should press or snap in and out of the bedding. The bedding should be continuous from the tang to an area forward of the recoil lug. The barrel should have a pad- 1-2" of solid stress free contact in front of the reciever. The bedding should be made of a material not affected by temperature, humidity, vibration, etc... The "bed" should be an exact negative mould of the rifle's proximal ventral region. The idea is to offer a "More Perfect Union" of the rifle to its stock. A stress-free union. This will mitigate vibrations through the rifle, and thus improve accuracy and shot-to-shot repeatablity.
