Comments:  I joined a RP on RyuxForums called Digimon Warriors, and when the leader of the RP realised I could draw, he asked me to do a few pics for the RP.  The first was this one, Leapermon. He sent me a pic he'd drawn and gave me a description of the Digimon, and what it could do.
The picture I received showed Leapermon with large antenna, which it used to detect it's surroundings.  Unfortunately, when I put antenna on Leapermon, they made it look cute.  It didn't matter what pose I put them in, or how I designed them, they made it look cute, instead of weird.  In the RP, the leader had already said that even the bad guys were freaked out by Leapermon, so cute was defiantly not on the agenda.  Instead I gave it these little bumps all over it's head, which was a bit bare anyway.  They do the same thing that the antenna were supposed to do.
The description I got also said that it was covered in slime, but slime is hard to cover something in whilst still being able to see the creature underneath.  So rather than having it covered in slime, I put thick, gloopy stuff on various parts of it's body.  It took quite a while to get it all on, and then to remember what was slime, and what was Leapermon.  I also needed to put something on it's feet, as there was too much space there, so I decided that the goo would be secreted by glands on it's ankles (well, near enough), it would then spread this all over it's body to stop it's skin drying out.
I always knew how I wanted the eyes to look, to be stuck out from the head, a bit like a chameleon's eyes.  They can't necessarily be swivelled about, but they do add to it's creepy factor, which is always a good thing.  I wanted the tongue to look creepy too, so I gave it a long, forked tongue, dripping with slimy saliva.  I also like how the teeth provide a nice contrast to the darkness of the skin.  In the original pic they look a bit like this, and were visible even when it had it's mouth closed.
The pose was a bit challenging.  I knew roughly what I wanted it to look like, but the bitch is always in the specifics.  In this picture, the hand furthest out is messed up, it doesn't look like it's resting on the ground at all.  Also, the furthest leg is longer than the closest one.  Luckily this doesn't really notice.
The colour was supposed to be black, but from the very beginning I had the idea of dark green in my head.  I made a compromise with myself and gave it a greenish black colouration.  It took me quite a while to get it to the right level, there are quite a few layers in there.
I'm happy with this pic, other than the few little messy bits it's really good.  It's the slime that does it I think, without that it wouldn't look half as cool.

I added the background and border in The GIMP.  I couldn't get it right at first, but it seems like, with this pic, less is more.  The sort of stripy bits were all created using lines and then filtering them.
