| Comments: I joined a RP on RyuxForums called Digimon Warriors, and when the
leader of the RP realised I could draw, he asked me to do
a few pics for the RP. The first was Leapermon,
then it was this fella, Leapermon's digivolution,
Ghoulmon. He sent me a pic he'd drawn and gave me a
very brief brief. Basically, he was inspired by the
Marvel creation, Venom. I have a book of artwork of Marvel characters, it's called Titans by Boris Vallejo and Julie Bell. It has really nice paintings of Venom, but they didn't give me exactly what I needed. So I turned instead to Carnage. He looks very similar to Venom, and the painting of him in the book directly inspired Ghoulmon's pose, which I had been struggling to come up with. I didn't want him to look too much like Venom, so I changed the colour. Leapermon is a very dark, greenish black, but I wanted to go in a different direction for Ghoulmon, so I decided on a deep, dull, blue. Ghoulmon is also supposed to be leaking acid from it's hands and feet, but I honestly don't know how to draw acid, having never seen it anywhere but a Hollywood movie (and we all know how accurate they are). So, unfortunately, I had to leave the acid out, but I decided that changing the colour of the hands from the main colour of the body would be a good substitute. The torso, legs, neck, and arms were designed using basic Digimon anatomy, combined with human anatomy. I have a book called, Drawing the Human Anatomy, by Giovanni Civardi, it's an excellent tool for anyone who needs to know what the human anatomy looks like from a drawing point of view, leaving out all the biological stuff that we artists don't need to know about. The feet I made up on the spot. The original drawing I received had a Ghoulmon with big feet, so I decided to keep that idea, but make it look more nighmareish. Big feet generally mean big toes. But bit toes look cute, so I needed to draw small toes on it, but with big feet that only means one thing, lots and lots of toes. I've also only just noticed as I write this that his feet appear to be on backwards. If you look at the foot closest to you, you can see that the inside toe is actually the smallest, instead of the biggest. Sometimes your eyes go so far into a drawing that you don't notice things like that. Looks good though. So far, everyone has said that this pic is cool but creepy. I guess that means I drew it right then. I screwed up where it was on the page, so the original is a bit off. But thanks to the art of computer cropping, you'll never know that. I'm very please with this pic, I've wanted to draw things like this for ages, and now finally I can. *sigh* |
