| Comments: Aww...isn't he
cute? I have no idea where the inspiration for this
one came from, but I saw the eyes first, the rest kind of
formed around it on it's own. I had a bit of trouble with the ears. Obviously they have to look the same, but they are, individually, more complicated than they look, so doubling them up and reversing the one I'd already drawn took me a while. There was a lot of rubbing out going on. The mouth was fairly simple to do. It doesn't really hold to the rules of baby Digimon (it curls around a bit too much), but rules are there to be broken, right? The eyes I love. As a sketch this picture looks completely weird, not cute at all, and it's all because of those eyes. The right one gave me a bit of trouble, and it still isn't perfect. I realised that I had to make them look as though they were set into the head, rather than on it, which I did by putting lines above the eyes, like eye lids. But it took me a little while to get the placement and length of them right. Too long and it made Calulumon look evil, too short and it had no effect. I think the best bit of the colouring in the eyes is the little pink/red highlight in the left eye. I should have replicated that in the other one. It was difficult to get such a light pink and still make it visible. If you look closely you'll notice that it's actually pink and yellow, I had to use both to build up the colour the way I wanted it. The shading was difficult also. It has quite a few levels in there, but I didn't want it too dark. I'm happy with this, the Digimon turned out well, and, for once, so did the shadow. I'm normally rubbish at shadow but it looks good on this one. |
