Psalms 37
Psalms 37:4
Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.

Delight thyself also in the Lord;
We must make God our heart's delight and then we shall have our heart's desire.  We must delight ourselves in His beauty, bounty, and benignity (generosity); our souls must return to Him, and repose (rest) in Him.  Being satisfied of His loving-kindness, we must be satisfied with it, and make that our exceeding joy.
<Ps 43:4>

And He shall give you the desires of thine heart.
He has not promised to gratify all the appetites and the humours of the fancy, but to grant all the desires of the heart, all the cravings of the renewed sactified soul.  What is the desire of the heart of a good man/woman?  It is this, to know, to love, and live God, to please Him and to be pleased in Him.

Psalms 37:5
Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in Him; and he shall bring it to pass.

Commit thy way unto the Lord;
We must make God our guide, and submit in everything to His guidance and disposal; and then all our affairs, even those that seem most intricate (difficult) and perplexed (confusing), shall be made to issue well and to our satisfaction. <Mt 6:25>  We are not to cumber (load) and trouble ourselves either with contrivance (plan) of the means or the expectation of the end, but refer it to God, leave it to Him by His wise and good providence to order and dispose of all our concerns as He pleases.

trust also in him;
And then trust (be confident, secure, sure) in Him to bring it to a good issue, with a full satisfaction that all is well that God does.  We must do our duty (that must be our care) and then leave the event to God.

and he shall bring it to pass.
Whatever it is, which you have committed to Him, if not to your contrivance (plan), yet to your content (satisfaction). He will find a means to extricate (deliver) you out of your straits (situation), to prevent your fears, and bring about your purposes, to your satisfaction.  He will take care of your reputation, and bring you out of your difficulties, not only with comfort, but with credit and honor.

Psalms 37:6
And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgement for the noonday.

And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light,
If we care to keep a good conscience, we may leave it to God to take care of our good name.

Psalms 37:7
Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who pospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.

Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for him:
Be well reconciled (approved) to all He does and acquiesce (agree) in it, for that is best that is, because what God has appointed; and be well satisfied that He will still make all to work for the good to us, though we know not how or which way.

fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.
Who, though he is a bad man, yet thrives and grows rich and great in the world; no, nor because of him who does mischief with his power and wealth, brings wicked devices to pass against those that are virtuous and good, who seems to have gained his point and to have run them down.

Psalms 37:8
Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil.

Cease from anger, and forsake wrath:
If your heart begins to rise at it, stroke down your folly (foolishness), and cease from anger, check the first stirrings of discontent and envy, and do not harbour any hard thoughts of God and His providence (devine guidance) upon this account.  Be not angry at anything God does, but forsake wrath; it is the worst kind of wrath that can be.

fret not thyself in any wise to do evil.
Do not envy them their prosperity, lest you be tempted to fall in with them and to take the same evil course that they take to enrich and advance themselves or some desperate course to avoid them and their power.  Note, a fretful discontented spirit lies open to many temptations; and those that indulge it are in danger of doing evil.

Psalms 37:9
For evil doers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the Lord, they shall inherit the earth.

For evil doers shall be cut off:
Because the properity of the wicked will soon end:  Evil-doers shall be cut off by some sudden stroke of devine justice in the midst of their prosperity; what they have got by sin will not only flow away from them <Job 20:28>, but they shall be carried away with it.  See the end of these men <Ps 73:17>, how dear their ill-got gain will cost them, and you will be far from envying them or from being willing to espouse (embrace) their lot, for better, for worse.

but those that wait upon the Lord, they shall inherit the earth.
Those that wait upon the Lord, as dependents on Him, expectants from Him, and suppliants to Him, shall inherit the earth, as a token of His present favour to them and an earnest of better things intended for them in the other world.  God is a good Master, that provides plentifully and well, not only for His working servants, but for His waiting servants.

God bless and keep you.
