Where is Home?
Brooklyn.
Inside a Tami Hoag book, the verse of Sapphire, Chrystos and Stevie Wonder. Where the heart is, spirit rests and cigarettes breaks come every two minutes. Where I walk around in my size zero birthday suit with nothing on my size seven feet, ‘cause in my home, I do as I please.
Where mother braided my hair for hours, part after part, braid after braid; a tradition, ritual rite of passage of the black woman: you sit on a chair or maybe the floor and mom takes that chipped, black tail-end comb and parts with the tail-end, a fluff of curly kinks and greases with blue Ultra Sheen or Coconut Hemp, and braids tight, so that you screw up your face from the pain, and in the morning, you grin and bare it, ‘cause you know you look cute with pink and white barrettes to match your pink and white outfit.
And fifteen years later, you yearn to go back to the home you once knew. Can’t go back to that beautiful, natural hair, ‘cause you went and permed it.
Went and permed it to look pretty like the other little black girls, how sad.
I miss home.

This website is pretty generic; it's a work in progress, so please, bare with me!
This page is for poets, writers and lovers of poetry whose tastes deviate from the norm. I've been writing for fifteen years, poetry for almost five years. Currently, I am working on a book of poetry titled,Thoughts Across the Brooklyn Bridge.
