Jourdan Facts:
1. Jourdan is a Chinchilla. Chinchillas are a South American species of burrowing rodent (definition taken from Columbia Encyclopedia). When chinchillas were first discovered, they were trapped and made into fur coats ( how people could turn these furry little creatures into coats is beyond me) but were then introduced as pets. Many people own chinchillas, and many breed them to sell as pets. Chinchillas come in many colours, including standard grey (Jourdan), White, Black, Black Velvet and Silver. Some colours of chinchilla are very rare, as they have lethal genes and are hard to mate.
2. His name is Jourdan because I have a thing for naming my pets after places (Jourdan is my Chinchilla, Phoenix is my kitten, my room-mates kitten is Dakota and my fish is Siamme...he's a Siamese fighter, and a dog named Star who was already named before we got her...she could be named after the stars in the sky!)
2. I believe he is about 1 and 1/2 years old. I have had him for about one year, and the pet store where I bought him believed he was four months old when they recieved him.
3. Jourdan is very vocal. When is is mad at me, he squeaks very loudly. When the kittens bother him, he hisses at them (and sometimes chases them a little) and when he is happy, I sometimes swear I can hear him purr, or whatever sound he makes.
4. Jourdan likes Kittens, until they bother him too much.
5. Jourdan enjoys chewing my socks. When he is running around on my floor, he tends to zero in on my socks and if I don't catch him in time, he will chew big holes in them.
6. Jourdan doesn't always sleep during the day. The pet store that I bought him from had his cage next to all sorts of other animals that weren't day-sleepers and Jourdan hasn't quite gotten his sleeping patterns back on track yet. |
