To My Dad!
by Luke Hendricks
*Dad, you never were a great comedian,
but you were always hilarious to me;

*Dad, you never were a body builder,
but in my eyes you were always the strongest man in the world;

*Dad, you never were a lawyer,
but you always argued in my defense;

*Dad, you never were a doctor,
but you always made me feel better;

*Dad, you never won a Nobel Prize,
but you always were the smartest man in my life;

*Dad, you never were on national television,
but you were always a star to me.

*Dad, you never had a first name of "Billy",
but you were always my idol;

*Dad, you never were perfect,
but you always are to me.

*Dad, you never were a great professor,
but you always helped me with my school work;

*Dad, you never were a priest,
but you always brought me to God;

*Dad, you never were President,
but you always were the most powerful leader in my world;

*Dad, you never were an officer,
but you will always receive a "Yes, Sir!" from me;

*Dad, you never had a newspaper column,
but I will always come to you for advice;

*Dad, you never were in a war,
but you always helped me fight my battles;

*Dad, you never received a Congressional Medal of Honor,
but you were always my hero;

*Dad, you never were perfect,
but I still want to be like you.

written for his dad, Richard V. Hendricks, II

Dad, as I sought to express my appreciation for you, especially as I enter the "real world", I couldn't.
So, I settled.  I thanked God for you, and I wrote this poem.  I hope you like it, and I am missing you!
God bless you always, for you truly are a blessing from Him.
"Anyone can be a father, it takes someone special to be a daddy!" --anon.
I love you, daddy, now and forever.  Thank you for being my father!
