Lent is the season of the church year that the historical church has chosen to focus on Christ's sacrifice on the cross. It is a time of repentence and sorrow as we anticipate it's conclusion in Holy Week, the week starting with Palm Sunday and ending with Easter. It is a period of 40 days (not including Sundays) before Easter. The color of the season is purple, focusing on Christ's royalty. Lent is also a joyous time, as we remember that it is God's love for mankind that Christ came to earth and died.
