Summary of December 13th, 2004
Coordinating Committee Meeting
[Pre69Teachers Home]
The Pre-1969 Teachers' Coordinating Committee met Dec. 13, 2004.
Thanks to Diane K. for recording the following main items discussed:

1. Health of the TRA fund:  Using data from June 2004 from a preliminary TRA report, the fund is fully funded at 100.2% or as measured by another consultant at 100.85%. The final report should be available at the end of December 2004.

2. Updating our database:  Many of our members are now involved in contacting the large number of teachers in our database.  Our lists are arranged by Minnesota Senate district.  We have asked these members to be "leaders" or contacts for these Senate districts and to encourage teachers to contact legislators soon.  The Communications Committee has decided to ask for a copy of all corrected lists, finished or not, to be returned by January 4.

3. Talking to your legislators:  You may want to hold a meeting and  invite Pre69 teachers, your senator, and both representatives. If you feel it would be helpful, contact a Coordinating Committee member, Rick Winters, or Tom Selwold to see if they can attend. Our web site was updated last week:

Bullet 2 on the website home page: "SENATE FILE 676 / HANDOUT FOR LEGISLATORS,"  directs you to background information that would be helpful to give to your legislators.  When we get a new bill introduced  for the 2005 session, we will let everyone know what the new S.F. and H.F. numbers are.  Our goal is to have many House legislators co-author
our new bill. If your representative supports us, please ask him/her to become a co-author of the new bill.

4. Message to Senate District "leaders" or contacts:  Do not worry if you have not finished calling all your teachers. Send a copy of the results you have to Terry O'D. or Diane K. by January 4, 2005.   If you obtain more information later, send it or email it when convenient.

5. Recent meetings: Joe O., Tom S. and Rick W. have met with Senator Cal Larson and Representative Michael Beard, coauthors of our bill. Tom and Rick met with Rep. Matt Entenza, House minority leader. Harry D. and Rick W. will try to meet with Representative Sandra Peterson, former co-president of EM.

Our next meeting is Tuesday, January 25, in St. Paul.
