-FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS-
WE NEED YOU ON OUR TEAM! A Capitol Action Team has been formed. Joe O'Neill will contact the team if he needs people quickly. If you are a metro-area member and can be in St. Paul on short notice for lobbying or attending meetings, you could make the difference in getting our legislation moving and passed. Can you be part of our team?

Q1. Who is eligible under our proposed legislation?
A. Any TRA teacher who rendered service during the 1968-69 school year and retired but did not receive two choices at the time of retirement is eligible.

Q2. What is our grievance?
A. The 1973 and 1974 legislatures caused an inequity between similarly situated teachers. They created two groups within the 1968-69 class of teachers. One group, created after the mandated deadline to choose a plan, had the option of choosing the better of two retirement plans. We are asking for fundamental fairness!

Q3. Was the Improved Money Plan (IMP) money in a different fund?
A. No, the higher retirement amounts paid to IMP teachers who chose the High 5 prior to 1997 came from the same TRA fund. This caused a further inequity by using High 5 monies to pay out the differences.

Q4. Why wasnt the injustice corrected earlier?
A. No one was aware that the inequity was in the law. As more legislators become aware of the injustice, we are gaining support for a equitable solution.

Q5. What can our members do?
Al. Develop a positive, on-going relationship with your legislators and continue it throughout the session. Stay in touch by writing letters, phone calls, emails and personal visits either in his/her home district or at the capitol.

A2. Spread the message about our group and our web site to any possible eligible
teachers.
