An Experience in Intercession
"I exhort therefore, that...intercessions...be made for all men." (I Timothy 2:1 KJV)
The Goal:  Wouldn't it be so awesome if every single person on this earth---heck, if everyone in this country even--- had somebody praying specifically for them on a regular basis?
   You may all be sitting there, slack-jawed, at the very mention of this dream of mine, with a little "yeah right!" bubble floating above your head.  But, if you really think about the possibilities---and think big---you'll see that this is not such an unattainable goal.
The Idea: If every Christian in North America would commit to a daily block of intercessary prayer we could truly move mountains.  The basic idea would be to have each believer pray for a different 20 people daily within 28-day cycles.  This could take as little as five minutes every day (allowing a simple one sentence prayer for each individual on your list) or as much time as one would be willing to sacrifice for such a ministry.
The Possibities:  If each prayer-warrior could pray specifically for 20 different people, for every 28 days in a cycle, we could each supply 560 people with prayer coverage.  And, of course, there's no need to limit yourself to only 20/day. The sky's the limit!
   Numbers spinning in your head right now?  You don't know even know 560 people by name?  See below (The Benefactors) for help.
The Benefactors: This system is going to cover so many more people than just your friends and family members alone.  Here's a nice breakdown of your daily twenty:

Each day cover AT LEAST...

FIVE FAMILY MEMBERS: Don't forget extended family and the in-laws.

FIVE FRIENDS: These would be people that you converse with on a regular basis.

FIVE AQUAINTANCES: These may be friends that you're not as close with as your regular confidants.  These may be people you work with, people you grew up with but are no longer in contact with, or just people whose names ring a bell when heard in conversation.  Any name that can be placed with a face.

AT LEAST ONE CHURCH LEADER: Your pastors, teachers, mentors...  If you don't come up with twenty-eight, include Christian organizations you may be involved with (ie. Christian camps, alma-maters, missionaries, charities that are close to your heart...etc.) and their administrators.

THREE PUBLIC FIGURES: Movie stars, television personalities, musicians, political figures...go for the gold here!  The people in this world who have the greatest influence over the lives of others are in HUGE need of our prayers. Believers and non-believers alike.
   Use people whose work you enjoy and that you feel a personal burden for as well as the ones that you could live without ever hearing about again!  If we're going to reach everybody, we're going to have to include everybody.  Intercession is an unselfish act.
    Remember our Christian entertainers as well.  And, when praying for a musical group or ensemble, try to find out each group  members' name.  Remember, we're going for specifics here.

AT LEAST ONE STRANGER: You may not know their names--and that's fine!  These could include a homeless person you passed on the street, a woman you saw crying on a park bench, a friendly store clerk, a person that you saw on a talk show that you just took pity on...whatever!  Be creative, be compassionate, and be sincere.
The Process:  Realistically, you're going to have to write this stuff down.  Reserve a notebook or journal specifically for you intercessions.  Have a page for each day of the cycle (a cycle will consist of 28 days--four weeks--Monday through Sunday) and label the top of each page as Monday 1, Tuesday 1...all the way up to... Sunday 4 ( Sunday of the 4th week).  DO NOT use actual dates--this will just confuse things month to month!  Sample Page
When you're starting out and are short on names, simply spread them out so they will be repeated so that every day is covered.
Please prayerfully consider any commitment you make to God.  If you commit to this sytem, you must commit to it daily!
