M.J.Kuriackose(Chackochen) was born on 18th December 1906.Since his parents died at a young age he and his two sisters Kunjeli and Mariamma went to live under the protection of their grand father Kuriackose of Edamana at Nedumkunnam. Young Kuriackose had an academic mind. and so he was send for High School education at Changanacherry.There he pursued his college course as well securing B.A.Degree from S.B.College in 1919 or 1920.Going to High school was by foot, a distance of over 15KMs one way. After graduation M.J Kuriackose was appointed Head Master of St.Georges English Middle School. After two years his academic ambition drove him to Trichinappally to take up the job of Lecturer at the St.Josephs College, one of the best known colleges in India. He taught Physics for a couple of years. |
| Simultaneously he pursued his studies in Malayalam and Sanscrit on the advice of his Principal Rev.Fr.Carty.S.J. in order to secure a professors post.He passed M .A. in languages and became Professor and Head of the Department. Later during the World War time in 1939 he joind the Britsh Army and was commissioned as a Lt. He saw active war operations in Assam and Burma and he retired as a Major in the Army. After leaving the Army service he joined Indian Railways and served in Western and Southers Railways before finally retiring and settling down at Cheruvally. |
| M.J.Kuriackose married Aeli or Elezabeth, called at home Achamma, the second daughter of Kizhakkethazhethu Mathen Joseph on 12 May 1927. Incidentally this was the first marriage solomnised at St.Mays Church Cheruvally. They were blessed with the following children: |
