My interest in fine arts grew up along with me from an early age. Determined to nurture this, my parents put me under the tutelage of the world renowned dance gurus "The Dhananjayans". I then continued my training under Smt Savitri Jagannatha Rao.

I have had the privilege of working with various senior dancers in the field. I have participated in many dance programmes both in India and abroad.

Teaching Experience

My association with "Anthara" founded by Smt. Sreelatha Vinod has enriched my teaching experience. I have developed her classes well and has found myself grow along with my students.I am capable of handling children of various ages. My gentle ways and methods have paved the way for success as a teacher. As a teacher iI am  result oriented, very encouraging and extremely dedicated to my students. I have assisted Smt. Sreelatha in her productions - 'Poornachandrika' and 'Samarpanam' by training the students ably.

I have taught individual dance lessons to students on several occasions. I have been teaching music in Anthara not only for young children but for seniors as well.

I have worked as a full time dance teacher at St. Patrick's Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School, Adyar, Chennai, during the academic years 2002-2004. My responsibilities included creating a dance syllabus for grades 1-5, developing a detailed bi-weekly lesson plan, choreographing dance programmes for inter-school competitions and other special school events.

Evaluations

Smt. Sreelatha Vinod, "Anthara"- Centre for Performing Arts

"I have known Prathima since her days as a keen student of dance and I have always found that she was a sincere and a dedicated person who in time matured into a fine performer and an exacting teacher. Having been trained in both music and dance I have been a great resource person and has contributed to the growth and development of “Anthara” especially in imparting the finer nuances of the dance style and the cultural heritage that it represents. Her years in my school “Anthara”, Center for Performing Arts, have strengthened and honed her abilities not just as a teacher of music and dance but also in her capacity of a choreographer and vocalist in the children’s annual presentation.
Prathima is a pleasure to work with and I am sure she will carry the ideals of “Anthara” wherever she goes and I sincerely wish her all the success in  all her endeavours in the years to come.”

“Prathima as my daughter’s music and dance teacher , is friendly  at the same time , firm. She is patient and extracts the best from the child. My daughter Samyukta was initially not so interested in music but within a month Prathima could inculcate the interest in the child. She encourages the children’s group constantly.”

Mrs. Suganya Elangovan

“My daughter Shwetha Bhavana learnt dance from Ms.Prathima for about a year. She not only teaches dance but also a lot of ethics to her students .I appreciate the way she corrects her students  with a mother’s concern. She is a rare kind of person talented in both fields of dance and music.”

Dr. M.Kuppulakshmi MD DGO.,Ex.Director & Superintendent , Institute of Obstetrics and Gynaecology , Govt. Hospital for Women &Children, Egmore , Chennai.

Prathima has been teaching me Carnatic music for the past one year .Due to the nature of my work I was not very regular in attending the classes. Inspite of my irregularity she was very concerned about my interest in music. She is a perfectionist but very kind and gentle above all a good disciplinarian.”

Press Reviews

Gandhi Nagar’s Prathima holds Arangetram- Adyar Times

“The highlight of the programme was the varnam , a composition of Papanasam Sivan in Devamanohari Ragam. Prathima impressed the audience by her abhinaya and exquisite footwork.”

Vivacious dance recital-News Today

“Clean choreography , fluid nritta and abhinaya marked the recital of Prathima , held at the Music Academy Mini Hall, recently. The very first number made everyone sit up She was successful in bringing out the soft tone of the lyrics in the mimetic exposition. The danseuse excelled in nayaka –nayaki bhavas and exhibited her creative talent with maturity in all spheres. The rendering of the varnam  was neat and exemplary and Prathima is welcome addition to the galaxy of young dancers in the country.”

Vivacious Stage Presence-K.N.Prathima-http;/www.horizans.com/review/rev69.html

She excelled in the varnam –her nrtitta or dance  was very rigorous and the bhakthi laden abhinaya describing Shiva in all His splendour was well portrayed.

The pick of the Padam was “Ariven Aiyah Un Andharangam” in Atana Ragam where the nayika is angry over the nayaka’s wanton behaviour. The khandita nayika is also sarcastic , “I know all about you now.”The dancer was able to emote without overdoing it, as many are wont to do. Less is always more where abhinaya is concerned.”
