The following is a leter to the editor of Times Of India written on the day Sonia Gandhi arrived in the city. (basically pissed me off).
hello Mr. Editor, Yesterday I crossed the Kerala - Karnataka border, where a big board welcomes people into the state and assures "divine hospitality". Today, I am not allowed to park my car in my usual spot on MG Road even though I manage to reach there before 8 O' clock. Why ? Mrs. Gandhi is coming to the city to inaugurate a Engg College, in all probability the owner of which will be a personal friend of hers. (later I learnt that it was the son of CK Jaffer Sheriff) What more? Any body who says Bangalore Police Department is understaffed should eat their words, if they take a stroll from Windsor Manor to Airport. None of whom are interested in easing traffic on any road which cuts across Mrs. Gandhi's cavalcade. There is a very thin line separating divine hospitality from sinister sycophancy. This is a open request to the city's police. Please earn some self respect. Stop harassing common people to please the so called VIPs. For God's sake, we lost the freedom of the country the last time we resorted to these tactics. Prashanth |
